As a catering company, Food in Motion has made its mark\non the community providing top level service to social gatherings large and\nsmall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But, at a time when social gatherings are on pause, the\nVata Court-based business has had to \u201ccompletely adapt overnight\u201d to a new\nnormal while finding ways to keep their business going, their staff employed\nwhile, at the same time, giving back to the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am flying this plane as I build it here,\u201d says Food in\nMotion co-owner John Cosentino. \u201cThis is all brand new for me and I am learning\nevery day. Because Food in Motion is a catering company and our business model\nis based around social gatherings, social distancing has kind of dismantled our\nbusiness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic the company has\nshifted gears from a catering business to a restaurant focused on food\ndeliveries and curbside menus. Developing a completely new menu that was based\non a family restaurant concept the Cosentino family developed when he was just\nseven years old, they\u2019re preparing popular Italian-Canadian dishes like chicken\nparmigiana, veal scallopini, lasagna and other family-friendly fare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have condensed our menu so it is very manageable as a\ntwo-person operation and we\u2019re doing all the administrative work, all the\ndeliveries,\u201d he says, noting that he is seeing a particular uptake from\ncouples, empty-nesters, and small families isolating together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThrough this, I have had the chance to meet a lot of new\npeople, which is awesome for whenever Food in Motion does return, whatever that\nis going to look like, whenever that is going to be,\u201d says Mr. Cosentino.\n\u201cPeople have reached out and people are really thankful that Food in Motion has\nadapted and we\u2019re able to offer something besides fast foods and other things\nthat are essential. That has been really heartwarming for us. I think the fact\nthat this is so new to us and the fact that we\u2019re being able to put this model\nas a restaurant\/delivery pick-up service, we\u2019re able to do it so quickly and\novernight is rewarding for myself and the fact that people are actually\nordering and we\u2019re getting support from our friends, the ones that we see on a\ndaily basis, just gives me the reassurance that things are going to be\nokay. There were a couple of days where\nit was really tough to breathe for a little while because I didn\u2019t know if\nthere was going to be a Food in Motion anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday, Food in Motion announced they were looking at\nmore ways to give back to the community by distributing homemade\nItalian-Canadian meals to frontline healthcare workers at Southlake Regional\nHealth Centre. Individuals can go online to Food in Motion\u2019s website to help\nmake this program possible by donating $12 to sponsor the cost of a meal which\nwill be distributed each Thursday and Friday to those helping to fight the\npandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They hope to distribute up to 120 meals each week through\nthis initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are so grateful for everything they are doing for us,\nso we just wanted to give back,\u201d says Mr. Cosentino. \u201cMy cousin is a nurse and\npeople are dropping off yogurt and Nutrigrain bars, but there is something else\nwe can do: Food in Motion wants to be able to arrange meals for the doctors and\nnurses. You will be able to go to our website to support our frontliners. You\ncan donate one meal, which is $12 and you can donate as many as you want. We\u2019re\ngoing to cap off [donations] every Wednesday and then we will be able to make\nthe meals Thursday and Friday morning and we\u2019ll deliver them ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
