When Novak Djokovic and his brother Marko released a video\nlast week of them playing tennis in their home with frying pans over a set of\nchairs, aligned through the foyer in their family home was a simple reminder of\nwhat it means to get creative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Better yet, creativity is not a concept that simply compels\nprofessional athletes to shape-shift their home into a professional game, but\nit also means that everyone needs to occupy their time \u2013 and thinking outside\nthe box is a good start to making the best use of your time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is important for all age groups, but especially for\nchildren. In fact, it is imperative that children get outdoors and play; not\njust exercise, but play, according to Sport Aurora President Ron Weese. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPlay is a concept more related to freedom,\u201d says Mr. Weese.\n\u201cIt\u2019s related to developing risk strategies, it has a large component of fun\nand as a result of that, people who play tend to play longer and tend to play\nharder.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With recent changes in the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens have\nto abide by new physical distancing by-laws and are encouraged to stay home as\nmuch as possible, but that doesn\u2019t mean that children cannot play in their own\nbackyard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s where families with multiple children benefit the\nmost, but parents also need to be there to help their child\/children mitigate\nthe potential of boredom. It\u2019s also important to keep the child\u2019s mind active. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Playing is intellectual, Weese adds. If you give the child a\nchance to play, they will make choices. If adults instruct them to play a\ncertain way then that creativity is lost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When parents instructed their children to go play years ago,\nhe says nobody told you what to play; just get out there and have fun and do\nwhat you want \u2013 safely, of course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any form of running, jumping, hopping and skipping has a lot\nof benefits for the body. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Weese, children that reap the benefits from the\nlocomotive activities increase their balance, reactions and strength. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being outdoors and surrounding yourself in even the\nslightest of natures helps develop cognitive abilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a group that advocates for children being outside, Sport\nAurora says outdoor play also has internal benefits to the body and to the\nimmune system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, people boost their immune system by getting a healthy\ndose of sunlight and it\u2019s proven, that\u2019s science,\u201d Weese explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As COVID-19 protective measures stay in force for the time being, it is still important not to neglect any play, while respecting the laws. Play safe and play smart. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
