{"id":26289,"date":"2020-04-03T17:13:39","date_gmt":"2020-04-03T21:13:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=26289"},"modified":"2020-04-03T17:13:44","modified_gmt":"2020-04-03T21:13:44","slug":"restaurants-change-menus-service-to-stay-open-for-delivery-and-pickup-amid-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/restaurants-change-menus-service-to-stay-open-for-delivery-and-pickup-amid-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Restaurants change menus, service to stay open for delivery and pickup amid COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When they opened up their new restaurant in Aurora\u2019s\ndowntown core last year, Romy and Natasha Jolly were pleased to bring a new\nculinary experience to the community with Romy\u2019s Restaurant &amp; Lounge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But, when COVID-19 became our new normal for the time\nbeing, it upended their business plans, along with those of countless other\nrestaurants in the community. And, like many of those struggling to stay afloat\nat this difficult time, they have deployed some creative thinking to stay open\nand continue satisfying local taste buds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They have had to let go all but a skeleton staff and shut\ndown their dining room and now they are focused on a takeout service with\ncurbside delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe whole thing has been a challenge,\u201d says Natasha.\n\u201cWe\u2019re not letting anyone else into the building, so when we\u2019re doing curbside,\nI will bring out the food and put it directly into their cars. Our customers\nare very pleased.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within every challenge is a silver lining and since they\nput a sign outside of their Yonge Street frontage to promote their new takeout\nand curbside options, they have brought in a few new customers. Natasha also\nsays the public has been especially friendly and accommodating as they try to\nstay afloat in the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEverybody has been very nice and supportive,\u201d she says.\n\u201cThey are trying to help us and there has been really good feedback from\neveryone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI see a change in attitude \u2013 these people were probably\nnice anyway, but sometimes the general public is in a rush, they want\neverything right away, and we\u2019re not hearing that anymore,\u201d she adds with a\nslight chuckle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That chuckle fades to a cracked voice, however, when\nasked what she would say to potential customers who might want to try something\nnew and support local business but, at the same time, are mindful of\nrecommendations to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWithout the help of the community, I think some of the\nbusinesses might not be able to open again, so if you can help out and you feel\ncomfortable, it is a great thing to do for your community,\u201d she says. \u201cThe food\nindustry is a hard business and if you can help out, it is helping put food on\nthe table for families with a small mom-and-pop shop, to at least help pay\ntheir bills as they get through this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are going to hang in for as long as we can. We want\nto be open again and we don\u2019t want to give up. We\u2019re just trying to stay\npositive and if they can support locally it makes a difference in someone\u2019s livelihood\nin the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To access Romy\u2019s takeout menu, visit romys.ca.
