Residents along Brookland Avenue have a message for our\nfrontline health care workers: Thank you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drivers along Brookland may have noticed a series of blue\nribbons tied along the stately trees that line the street\u2019s approach to Yonge\nStreet, some emblazoned with matching hearts, others with the contrasting red\nand white of our national flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each one of them has been put in place by Dianne and\nBrian Harrison who were looking for a way to thank our frontline workers in\nthis time of crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou know that song, \u2018Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole\nOak Tree?\u2019 We thought, why not tie blue ribbons around and remember all the\npeople out there \u2013 our emergency service workers, our frontline workers,\neveryone out there keeping us safe, our healthcare workers, everyone out there\ngoing the extra mile?\u201d
\nThey are not alone in their efforts as scores of roadside signs have popped up\nalong Kennedy Street West and the surrounding area thanking healthcare workers\nwhile, at the same time, encouraging everyone passing by to stay home in an\neffort to flatten the curve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Harrisons say they have always been guided by wise\nwords imparted to the world by Fred Rogers, best known as the children\u2019s\ntelevision host Mr. Rogers: \u201cWhen I was a boy, and I would see scary things in\nthe news, my mother would say to me, \u2018Look for the helpers. You will always\nfind people who are helping.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this crisis, it is heartening to know that we\ndon\u2019t have to look too hard to find the helpers \u2013 now, the question is, just\nhow can we say thank you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRight now, we\u2019re finding there\u2019s a lot of helpers out there,\u201d says Dianne. \u201cI just want everyone to be safe. Just think of others, keep your social distance, keep in touch, if you can, by telephoning people and make everyone know that we are a caring country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
