{"id":26212,"date":"2020-03-19T19:42:03","date_gmt":"2020-03-19T23:42:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=26212"},"modified":"2020-03-19T19:42:12","modified_gmt":"2020-03-19T23:42:12","slug":"province-introduces-job-protection-for-workers-during-covid-19-situation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/province-introduces-job-protection-for-workers-during-covid-19-situation\/","title":{"rendered":"Province introduces job protection for workers during COVID-19 situation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Ontario Government is moving to put new measures in\nplace to protect workers during the COVID-19 crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday, Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Labour Monte\nMcNaughton announced the government\u2019s intention to introduce new legislation\nwhich, if passed quickly, would \u201cimmediately provide job-protected leave to\nemployees in isolation or quarantine due to COVID-19\u201d as well as those who need\nto take time away from work to care for their children amid school and day care\nclosures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;While everyone&#8217;s concerns about their health and\nsafety is top of mind, the last thing we need is anyone worrying about job\nsecurity as the COVID-19 situation evolves,&#8221; said Ford. &#8220;That&#8217;s why I\ndirected the Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development to draft\nlegislation that will protect workers and their families during this difficult\nperiod.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Added the Minister: &#8220;Mothers and fathers who need to\ncare for children or dependants shouldn&#8217;t have to worry about losing their job.\nThe same goes for people who receive medical or public health advice and are\nrequired to take precautions as a result. They shouldn&#8217;t have to worry about\nlosing their job.
