{"id":26210,"date":"2020-03-19T19:40:41","date_gmt":"2020-03-19T23:40:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=26210"},"modified":"2020-03-19T19:40:51","modified_gmt":"2020-03-19T23:40:51","slug":"covid-19-assessment-centres-opening-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/covid-19-assessment-centres-opening-this-week\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 assessment centres opening this week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Southlake Regional Health Centre will open one of three\nYork Region-based COVID-19 assessment centres this week, according to the\nRegion of York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Southlake\u2019s clinic will serve alongside similar clinics\nat Richmond Hill\u2019s Mackenzie Health and Markham-Stouffville Hospital in helping\npatients experiencing COVID-19 symptoms get diagnosed, thus reducing the impact\non emergency rooms, physicians and the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCOVID-19 assessment centres help ease some of the\npressures experienced by emergency department teams coordinating the testing\nand assessment of suspected COVID-19 cases to date,\u201d says the Region of York.\n\u201cThey will also help ensure local hospital emergency departments are focused on\ntreating people who are critically ill and have life-threatening illnesses or\ninjuries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can attend a COVID-19 assessment centre if you are\nexperiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and you have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Recently returned from travel outside Canada within the last 14 days<\/li><li>Been in close contact with someone who is a presumptive or confirmed case of COVID-19<\/li><li>Been in close contact with someone who has flu-like symptoms who has travelled outside Canada in the last 14 days<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Symptoms of COVID-19 include a fever (over 38 degrees Celsius or 100 degrees Fahrenheit) combined with a new or worsening cough and-or new or worsening shortness of breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have concerns about symptoms, you should contact your primary care provider or call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each York Region hospital will manage their assessment centre based on their operational capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot all people who attend a COVID-19 assessment centre\nwill be tested for COVID-19,\u201d says the Region. \u201cThe role of an assessment\ncentre is to evaluate the need of each individual and triage patients\naccordingly. Each assessment centre will be managed by hospital staff and\nlocated in close proximity to an emergency department in case any patients\nbeing assessed require urgent care. If a patient is determined to be ill but\nnot requiring hospitalization, self-isolation or monitoring at home may be\nrequired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYork Region Public Health continues to collaborate with\nlocal hospitals, emergency services and other health agencies to ensure prompt\nreporting and follow up of all individuals who may require testing for\nCOVID-19.
