The Aurora Minor Tigers trademarked the Canadian version of\nMarch Madness with a minor hockey tournament at the Aurora Community Centre\nthis past weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atom, Bantam and Peewee clubs were chosen to be involved\nfrom Friday all the way to Sunday. Aurora Green, Yellow and Purple competed in\nthe Atom division and Aurora Red and Yellow Peewee, teams took part. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout a weekend of nonstop puck drops and sales of body\nlotions all throughout the centre, it was a jam-packed weekend for parents and\nplayers before the final week ahead of March break. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, the Atom division kicked off the tournament when\nthe Aurora Purple were trounced by Aurora Green 7-1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aurora Yellow had to wait until mid-day before playing their\nfirst game in the Atom division against Aurora Green. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this one, it was the Hunter Lethangue show. His puck\ncontrol and vision down the ice exceled the young man past the defence on\nmultiple occasions. Before anyone knew it, it was 2-0 by the end of the period.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green got back into it in the second period with a goal from\nNoah Dalcin. But Lethangue had other ideas, burying two more goals for a 4-1\nvictory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHunter is a really good player. One of the top two or three\nplayers in the league. He\u2019s used to scoring and he came through today. If he\nhas a good game, our team has a good game,\u201d said head coach of Atom Aurora\nYellow Jamie Cole. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yellow went on to tie their second game 2-2 against the\nThorold Blackhawks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday, Purple and Green went on to lose the rest of\nthe games in the round robin. Aurora Yellow won their second last game, before\nlosing an exhilarating game against Copper Cliff Boston. Down 6-0, the team\nbattled back to bring the game within two. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boston seemingly shook off the momentum shift and put forth\nanother two goals to finish first place in the group. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, Green and Yellow fell in the semi-final games against\nCopper Cliff Boston and the Thorold Blackhawks respectively; just missing out\non a chance for an all-Aurora final. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copper Cliff Boston took home the trophy, thrashing the\nThorold Blackhawks 10-0. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peewee <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same despair occurred with Aurora Red and Yellow from\nthe Peewee division, except both clubs did not make it past the round robin\nstage with the OCHL Knox, Thorold Blackhawks, Otonabee Wolves and the Newmarket\nRedmen in their group. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only victory for one of the Aurora teams came in the\nfinal game when both clubs went head to head to finish off the tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adrian Smith got Red on the board first, thanks to a nifty\npass from Andreas Altinian. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Close to the end of the period, Mujjaahid Karim passed\nacross the hashmarks to Rowan Bab, and received the puck back from Bab on the\ndoorstep to tie it up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second period, both teams added two more goals\napiece, lining up a thrilling third period in front of their parents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the game down to the wire at 6-4, Altanian scored with\n18.4 seconds left in the game to bring the Red team within one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Off the draw, Yellow dumped the puck back towards Red\u2019s\nzone, preventing any play being set up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Altinanian shared what he will do for his playoff games\noutside of the tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJust pass up to your teammates when there\u2019s an open net,\njust go to it, take a shot. Just try to get assists as well,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OCHL Knox won the tournament in the end, defeating the\nThorold Blackhawks 3-1. A successful weekend for all participants and for the\nplayers on the eve of playoff hockey for most clubs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special thanks once again to tournament director Mary Ann Cobb and all other personnel for a smooth and safe tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
