Season-ender featured poignant ceremonies<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aurora Tigers ended off their season on the road against the Burlington Cougars and were welcomed back home last Saturday for the finale against the Pickering Panthers \u2013 in front of a warm crowd and the minor Tigers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been a roller coaster year for the organization, but\nthese last two games meant a lot. Following a 6-2 loss on the road against an\nexperienced Cougars team, the Tigers came back home Saturday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe team loved it,\u201d explained head coach Jim Wells Jr. \u201cI\nknow the players really enjoyed the turnout, that meant a lot to them. It\u2019s\nbeen a long year for them. They never quit as a team and to have a good crowd\ncome out, I know it meant a lot to them.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to the match, the club held some pre-game ceremonies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matt King was voted the Scotiabank Fan Favourite Award for\nthe Tigers and Trevor Grasby received the OJHL Community Heroes Award for the\nplayer who best exemplifies himself as a role model in the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after, there was a moment of silence held to honour\nlong time Town of Aurora employee Brian Kent Pidgeon, who passed away on\nFebruary 20at the age of 59. He was considered to be an honourary\nmember of the team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Afterwards, the Tigers organization unveiled the new name of\ntheir commentary booth, officially named after Steve Mitchell; a long-time\nvideographer for the Aurora Tigers. Mitchell had a heart transplant last year\nand is cautious on where he goes. His family was there to receive the honour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers lost their final game 7-1 against another\nexperienced team, the Pickering Panthers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After going down 2-0 after the first period, the Tigers\nresponded well in the second. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, we came out flying in the second to get back in it,\nwe got 21 shots,\u201d said Wells. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI can\u2019t ask anything more out of the guys.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After conceding another two goals in that period, heading\ninto the third, Wells commended some of the players on the ice that played\nexceptionally well this year despite the numbers. He calls them soldiers, even\nsilent leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere we are, down five nothing or four nothing, he\u2019s out\ntheir penalty killing and blocking pucks. He\u2019s a silent leader,\u201d explained\nWells when speaking about defenceman Cael Cavallin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wells commended Grasby as a silent leader as well and went\non to praise newcomer Nicholas Primomo, who joined the team late this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is in these games the Tigers do the little things right.\nAlthough the execution of finding the back of the net overshadows the game most\nof the time, understanding the growth of some players is essential moving\nforward. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blake Frost for instance, has been working hard all year and\nfinally managed to get some points on the board because he has never given up\nthis year and helps lead the boys in the room. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another player Wells spoke highly of, was Alex Ridolfi, who\nhas made vast improvements over the course of the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe was with the Tigers, went to Markham. We brought him\nback. He\u2019s not a point guy, but he\u2019s a guy who is unbelievable in the room.\nHe\u2019s a silent leader, works hard at his game.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team has had a taste of winning recently. Most notably,\na 3-2 win against the Oakville Blades, handing that team their third loss of\nthe year at home. There was a 63-point difference between these two clubs when\nthey went head to head. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wells said that he loves the pieces he\u2019s got to build a team around. He also went on to add that with this taste of winning, the boys will want it all the time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
