Actor Trevor Coll may have landed the role of a lifetime,\nbut his heart roots for his hometown of Aurora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coll plays the lead part of Galileo in the Queen-inspired\nmusical We Will Rock You, which opened in Winnipeg and will be playing at\nMeridian Hall in Toronto on February 7 and 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeing a part of We Will Rock You has truly been a dream\ncome true. I have been privileged to perform this show in 100 different cities\nincluding Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York and now in Toronto, the city which\nfostered my love for the arts. From a vocal standpoint, there are few shows I\nam as connected to as this one, so being able to be take the stage on my\nToronto debut in my dream role is wildly humbling and incredibly epic,\u201d said\nColl, who recalls seeing the show in high school and instantly becoming an avid\nfan of the soundtrack and all things Queen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2019Somebody To Love\u2019 has been my go-to audition song ever\nsince. Being able to share this show across North America, perform on iconic\nstages and live out a childhood dream \u2013 professionally speaking, it really\ndoesn\u2019t get better than this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coll is all too aware of the epochal status of Queen and\nthe expectations from his audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey definitely expect to hear it honoured in a specific\nway and I\u2019m constantly under pressure. Freddie Mercury is an icon but thank\ngoodness \u2013 for my sake \u2013 We Will Rock You is not a biographic retelling of his\nlife, but instead a jukebox musical incorporating Queen\u2019s musical catalogue\ninto a story for the stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI worked closely with Queen\u2019s music supervisor, Stuart\nMorely, who constructed the perfect ways to keep the spirit of Queen in all of\nthe songs while injecting my character\u2019s arc into their narratives. I can\u2019t\nimagine a more gratifying experience,\u201d said Coll, who grew up listening to his\nmom\u2019s eclectic CD collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHer taste in music made my drives to hockey and soccer\nseem like the original carpool karaoke with artists such as Amanda Marshall,\nJames Blunt, Nickelback, Alanis Morrisette, Pink, No Doubt and U2. I also have\nthe best siblings who would spend many a weekend with me watching classic\nmusical movies including The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz and Grease.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the fandom and success, Coll is never too far\nfrom home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am a nostalgic person and I feel very grateful to have\ngrown up as a Canadian with the opportunity to live with freedom and the\nability to follow my dreams. Some of my dearest friends, role models and spirit\nleaders have come from Aurora and there is no better environment to annually\nreground myself while filling up on good wholesome fun,\u201d said Coll, who was\nhighly involved with recreational and rep sports, as well as community theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was always encouraged to excel in school by phenomenal\neducators,\u201d he said, recalling his days at the Regional Arts Program at St.\nElizabeth Catholic High School. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Coll\u2019s favourite places in Aurora is the Cineplex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMovies rule! Coming back between jobs, I have loved\nwatching this Town grow, become more diverse and broaden opportunities for\nyoung people in the arts. I\u2019d like to say to the youth in Aurora \u2013 follow your\nheart, believe in yourself and remember you miss 100 per cent of the shots you\ndon\u2019t take.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for his own plans, Coll is enjoying the moment. \u201cIt is time to soak all of this up and start to develop some new goals. Anything can happen!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
