St. Andrew\u2019s football stars finalized their letters of\nintent last week to join the Queen\u2019s Gaels next year.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aurora native Brendan Dilworth and Caledon native Nathan\nFalconi have been gifted full scholarships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a testament to their football careers at St. Andrew\u2019s\nCollege, both players earned the prestigious Addison Award. In memory of Harry\nJ. Addison, this prize is presented to graduating football players who have\nmade an outstanding contribution to the program at the school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both players were team captains this past year and almost\nended their career with a title, if it was not for injuries in the final against\nHuron Heights Secondary School. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of their most recent memories together outside of\nhigh school football was their experience as a part of Team Ontario in the\nInternational Bowl last year. The boys took on Team USA beneath the floodlights\nat the home of the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas. Although they lost and\nFalconi scored a touchdown, the experience was unparalleled at AT&T\nstadium. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, their careers take a new step in a place where\nschool and football are prioritized above all else. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 6\u20192, Dilworth is a force to be reckoned with. He can\nplay on the offensive and defensive side of the line. He is a physical lineman\nwith incredible intelligence on play calling throughout the others he plays\nwith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gaels offensive coordinator Tom Flaxman shares why he\nchose Dilworth with a focus on offensive lineman in the program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBrendan is going to play interior for us the guard\nposition,\u201d said Flaxman. \u201cI think his intelligence is going to help us a lot on\nthe offensive line. We have a huge focus on the offensive line in our program.\nWe want to be known as a place where offensive lineman come to maximize their\npotential and certainly coach Nesbitt is doing a great job developing that and\nour program.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dilworth said he has always wanted to attend Queen\u2019s. He\nshared what he feels he needs to do to improve his techniques for his first\nyear at university. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe strength and conditioning staff here have put\ntogether a plan for me in the gym and also on footwork preparing me for the\nnext level. I\u2019m just going to keep following the plan they put me on and work\nat it all the way through the summer. Then come into training camp next year at\nQueen\u2019s with the willingness to learn.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for Falconi, his skills are similar to New Orleans\nSaints player Taysom Hill. He can play quarterback, running back, wide receiver\nand even safety in some cases due to his speed and his versatility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flaxman says he loves that feature Falconi will bring to\nthe team and how he will be an X-factor in the Gaels\u2019 no huddle offence.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a bit of a Swiss Army knife he can kind of do a bit\nof everything. He can play some quarterback, he can play some running back, he\ncan play some receiver and that is exactly how we will utilize him. His primary\nposition will be at the receiver position,\u201d explained Flaxman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Falconi received multiple offers from other school in\nCanada and the United States. He shares why he chose Queen\u2019s above all else. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI knew a lot of coaches there. Coach Flaxman, Coach\nNesbitt and all of them. I\u2019ve known them from Team Ontario and everything since\ngrade nine. I was comfortable with the coaches at that point and after visiting\ntwo weeks ago and seeing the facilities and everything. It felt right.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On top of playing football, the boys are required to\nadhere to standards held by the team and the school. Students will be taught\nhow to be student athletes. The tools to be successful will be provided to\nthese boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Structure is a big thing with mandatory study halls and freshman checks along the way. The university has the largest athletic department in the country and knows how to minimize the first-year culture shock that new students endure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
