The Junior A Aurora Tigers dropped three games this past\nweek to begin the new year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just prior to New Year\u2019s Eve, the Tigers travelled out east,\non the shore of Lake Ontario, to battle the Cobourg Cougars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cougars got things started first. Nicholas Aromatario\nopened the scoring four minutes into the first period and Erik MacNiel added a\nsecond for a two-goal lead after the opening frame. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second period, the Cougars capitalized on the power\nplay thanks to Jason Stachelbeck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After outshooting the Cougars 16-14 in the first, the Tigers\nfinally got on the board halfway through the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trevor Grasby cut the lead down to two, assisted by the team\u2019s\nleader in points Jonathan Balah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the final period, Cougars forward Jacob Campbell added a\nfourth goal on the power play. Following this goal, the Cougars fell deeply\ninto penalty trouble including a 10-min misconduct penalty to Mitch LaFay for\nhead contact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of all these penalties, Tigers forward Luc Reeve\ncapitalized on the power play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With misfortune on the Tigers side, the boys conceded a\nshort-handed goal losing 5-2. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team outshot the Cougars 32-31 that evening, heading\nover to another city in the east for a back to back tilt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Friday, the Tigers travelled to Pickering to take on\nthe Panthers. The Aurora Tigers had yet to defeat the Pickering Panthers losing\nthree-straight prior to this game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first period the Tigers outbattled the Panthers. The\nboys outshot their opponent 13-10. The forecheck was top notch. The penalty\nkill was sublime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This game would have to wait until the second period for the\npuck to hit the back of the net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Panthers forward Kevin Stiles opened the scoring for his 13th<\/sup>\ngoal of the year. Despite the deadlock being broken, no floodgates opened up in\nthis game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This tight game had to wait until the third period for the\nsecond goal \u2013 without a goaltender in net. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rocco Andreacchi buried the empty net goal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tigers goalie Andrew Barwinski stopped 37 of 38 shots on the\nnight and Panthers goaltender Brendan Bonello earned his third shutout of the\nyear in front of 159 attendees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day, these two teams would clash once more in the\nafternoon in front of a lesser crowd, recorded at 141. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first period the Panthers scored two goals less than\na minute apart past goaltender Christian Filippetti. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With such a different beginning than the day before, the\nTigers remained resilient to the slow start. Sebastian Tamburro scored late in\nthe second period after a dominant frame, outshooting Pickering 15-7. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Down by one goal, the Tigers seemed to have collapsed. The\nboys coughed up four goals on ten shots, falling 6-1; a scoreline that does not\nfully reflect a great performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bonello earned a second victory and the Tigers will have to\nwait until Saturday to take on the Panthers, at home this time at the Aurora\nCommunity Centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
