That sound emanating from the Tiger\u2019s\nden is not yet a roar, but more a sigh of relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fittingly, it was captain Jonas Leas\nthat dug the Junior A Aurora club out of the 11-game losing streak they found\nthemselves in to open the Ontario Junior Hockey league season, capping off a 2\n\u2013 1 win in overtime on Saturday over the division rival Collingwood Colts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking advantage of a Collingwood penalty\njust over a minute into the extra frame, Leas wound up from the top of the left\ncircle to finish off a one-timer from Bryce Young, sending the Aurora bench\ninto a frenzy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe monkey is off their back,\u201d said\nOJHL analyst Kevin Dean following the winning goal. \u201cWhat a hard-working team.\nThey have been the most snake-bitten team I\u2019ve seen in junior hockey, having so\nmany opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was Leas\u2019 first goal in a Tigers\nuniform, ending a streak of his own to start his time in the gold and black, while\nChristian Filippetti found his groove between the pipes in picking up his first\nwin of the season, a stellar outing in stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaleb Nelson also found the back of the\nnet for the Tigers, his team-leading fifth goal of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The relief on the ice was palpable: just\none night earlier on the same ice, Aurora blew a quality chance against the\npowerhouse Toronto Jr. Patriots in allowing three unanswered goals in the third\nperiod, on route to a 5 \u2013 2 loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers are hoping that Saturday\u2019s\nwin, one which saw the club\u2019s point total in the standings double with just one\ngoal, proved to be the start of a rebound in a season that is already close to\nbeing lost early on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet a return to the ice on Monday for a\nmatinee with the Stouffville Spirit had the Tigers back in familiar territory,\nallowing an onslaught of chances on both of their goaltenders in a 5 \u2013 3 loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrew Barwinski was peppered with shot\nafter shot in his time on the ice, lasting just over 33 minutes before getting\nthe yank in favour of Filippetti. The change occurred with the game already out\nof reach, with Aurora down 5 \u2013 0 after Barwinski was forced to contend with 33\nshots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Balah and Jalen Balbosa closed out the\nscoring in the final period of play, both capitalizing on the powerplay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, while Saturday\u2019s win marked\na step in the right direction, it remains a long ladder to climb: with a record\nof 1-10-0-2, the Tigers remain well back of the division-leading Markham\nRoyals, and are still one point back of the newly-minted Milton Menace for the\nleague\u2019s worst record, with the two sides making a swap late on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the return to the Tigers is yet to\nbe announced, Aurora sent defenseman Noah Romeo to the Menace, who had skated\nin ten games for Aurora this season while managing a trio of points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers will look to get back on\ntrack in visiting the Royals on Friday, before heading to Milton for a matinee\non Sunday to face the Menace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
