Polling suggests it\ncould be anyone\u2019s game, and candidates vying for your vote in Aurora-Oak\nRidges-Richmond Hill and Newmarket-Aurora have hit the ground running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday\nmorning, Governor General Julie Payette dissolved parliament on the advice of\nthe Prime Minister, signalling the start of a Federal Election campaign that\nwill culminate with the nation-wide vote on Monday, October 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aurorans on the\nsouth side of Wellington Street will vote for the second Federal election\nrunning in the riding of Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill where incumbent Leona\nAlleslev is running to retain her seat, this time as a Conservative following\nher dramatic floor crossing one year ago this week from the Liberals to the\nTories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Challenging her on\nthe campaign trail are Liberal candidate Leah Taylor Roy, NDP candidate Aaron\nBrown, Green Party candidate Timothy Flemming, and Dave DeLisle of the People\u2019s\nParty, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A final list of\ncandidates is yet to be confirmed by Elections Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the north side of\nWellington Street, in the riding of Newmarket-Aurora, there are no incumbent\ncandidates looking to continue their role representing you in Ottawa following\nthe announcement this past spring that rookie Liberal MP Kyle Peterson would not\nseek re-election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vying to replace him\ncarrying the Liberal banner is former Newmarket mayor Tony Van Bynen. Hoping to\nturn the riding from red back to blue is former Conservative MP Lois Brown who,\ndefeated at the polls in the previous Federal election by Mr. Peterson, is\nlooking to secure a third mandate from voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining them in the\nrace are, among others, NDP candidate Yvonne Kelly, Green Party candidate\nWalter Bauer, and People\u2019s Party candidate Andrew McCaughtrie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the election\nwas called on Wednesday, candidates have hit the ground running, knocking on\ndoors across both of Aurora\u2019s ridings, and Mr. Van Bynen welcoming a number of\nhigh-profile Liberal representatives and candidates from both levels of\ngovernment trying to get out the party\u2019s message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week, and in\nthe coming weeks, The Auroran will roll out profiles of individual candidates\nseeking election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A number of\nopportunities are also being planned to give you the chance to meet your\ncandidates and press them on the issues that matter to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Confirmed so far is\na debate for both ridings\u2019 candidates hosted by the Aurora Chamber of Commerce\nfrom on the morning of Wednesday October 2 from 7.30 \u2013 9.30 a.m. at St.\nAndrew\u2019s Valley Golf Course. A further debate, hosted by the Newmarket Chamber\nof Commerce for Newmarket-Aurora candidates will take place Tuesday, October 8,\nfrom 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Cardinal Golf Club in King. A Meet and Greet with\ncandidates from both ridings will be hosted by \u2013 and at \u2013 the Aurora Public\nLibrary on the evening of Tuesday, October 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
