The world\u2019s best female golfers will arrive in Aurora this week\nto take on the Magna Golf Course for the CP Canadian Women\u2019s Open and while the\nevent will make Aurora a destination for golf enthusiasts from across the GTA\nand beyond, after the winner is crowned, the game will leave a lasting legacy\nin the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dedicated to heart health \u2013 and, in particular, children\u2019s heart\nhealth, CP (Canadian Pacific) has set a goal of raising $1.75 million in the\nlead up to, and over the course of, this tournament which will be divided\nbetween Toronto\u2019s SickKids Hospital and, locally, Southlake Regional Health\nCentre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn our five years as title sponsor, we\u2019ve made it a priority to\nsupport children\u2019s heart health in Canada,\u201d says James Clements, CP\u2019s Vice\nPresident of Strategic Planning and Transportation Services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southlake received their $250,000 donation earlier this month,\nand it will go directly to their Paediatric Cardiology Care Centre, supporting\na new echocardiogram with specialized paediatric probes. This advanced\nequipment uses ultrasound technology to map images of the heart and will\nenable Southlake\u2019s expert clinical teams to diagnose and monitor heart\nconditions for young patients at the hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are honoured to be recognized by CP as an important provider\nof paediatric cardiac care in York Region,\u201d says Susan Mullin, President and\nCEO of the Southlake Foundation. \u201cThis kind of support enables us to grow and\nexpand the services we offer, meaning that we can better shift our focus to\nmeet the needs of our communities and be able to provide the care they need\ncloser to home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the fundraising is far from over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once game play begins on Monday, running through August 25,\nspectators and supporters will have a chance to get in on the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe biggest fundraiser we have been doing since CP took over\ntitle sponsorship in 2014 is what we call Birdies for Heart,\u201d explains Golf\nCanada\u2019s Ryan Paul. \u201cEach year, CP designates one hole as the official charity\nhole and, on that hole, every time a player makes a birdie during the\ncompetition, CP donates $5,000 to that hospital. We have seen numbers as low as\n$55,000, which is still a fantastic donation amount to upwards of over\n$100,000. This year on the seventeenth hole, which is a beautiful Par 3, I\nthink the players are going to enjoy that hole, they\u2019re really going to attack\nthe pin, so we\u2019re hoping to get a lot of birdies and get that number up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNew this year, what spectators can do to get involved in, as\nalways, is they can sit and watch and cheer on the birdies and encourage\nplayers to raise that donation, but they can get on board too by doing a flat\ndonation or pledging themselves a dollar amount per birdie. If you want to make\na donation of $100 and you think there are going to be 100 Birdies, you can\nsay, \u2018I will donate $1 per birdie made by the players\u2019 and now you\u2019re part of\nthe action too and part of the excitement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don\u2019t even have to be on the seventeenth hole to make that\npledge; you can do it from the comfort of your own home by making your pledges\nonline at www.cpwomensopen.com, where dollars are already rolling in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
