York Regional Police have identified the victim found in\na burnt out house on Edward Street on July 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The body of 38-year-old Troy Stephen Oakley has been identified\nfollowing a post-mortem examination by the Office of the Chief Coroner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of the ongoing investigation, 36-year-old\nMelissa Galea, a resident of Aurora, now faces first degree murder charges\nafter being charged with second degree murder late last month. In addition to\nthese first-degree murder charges, Galea also faces charges of arson, six\ncounts of uttering threats, and fail to comply with recognizance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is next scheduled to appear in court via video link\non Thursday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charges have not been proven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 27, just before 1 a.m. York Regional Police and\nCentral York Fire Services were called to an inferno on Edward Street, between\nMetcalfe Street and Harrison Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There, officers found the house, which had recently been\nsold, fully engulfed in flames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Central York Fire Services had knocked down the fire by 2\na.m. and when they were able to enter the home, they found the body of an\nindividual, believed to be an adult man, deceased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of the day, the YRP\u2019s Homicide Unit had\narrested Galea and charged her with Second Degree Murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

York Regional Police Constable Andy Pattenden told The\nAuroran that the suspect was \u201carrested at her residence, which is not far from\nthe location of the homicide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police declined to comment on what the investigation\nyielded to up Ms. Galea\u2019s charges from second to first degree murder, nor would\nthey confirm whether or not Mr. Oakley\u2019s death was the result of the fire\nitself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investigation continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
