Andrew Nembhard is temporarily trading\nin his orange and blue for the red and white.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The up-and-coming superstar was named as\none of 29 ballers to attend Team Canada\u2019s training camp this summer, in an\nattempt to whittle down a roster to compete in the FIBA Basketball World Cup\nand hopefully earn a 2020 Olympic berth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a star-studded lineup of NBA talent\nthat Nembhard, a member of the University of Florida Gators as a sophomore,\nwill be competing against for a spot. The backcourt includes the likes of\nNickeil Alexander-Walker, Cory Joseph, Luguentz Dort, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander,\nBrady Heslip, Jamal Murray, and others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet Nembhard, who has worn the maple\nleaf crest before, said he feels good about heading into camp after getting\nsome positive vibes from the Team Canada staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey\u2019re up on me,\u201d said Nembhard. \u201cThey\nsee how I compete.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aurora native was the only NCAA\nprospect deemed worthy enough by Canada Basketball to receive the call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should he accept the invitation to camp,\nNembhard will find himself in Toronto for a mini-camp from August 4 \u2013 6, before\na pair of exhibition games versus Nigeria. Exhibitions against Australia, New\nZealand, and the United States will follow before the roster is complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If he makes the team, a trip to China in\nearly September will be in the works for the World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nick Nurse was recently named as the\nhead coach for the team heading into the World Cup, fresh off an NBA\nChampionship with the Toronto Raptors. He has high hopes for all the young\nCanadian talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s a talented group of guys. If\nthese guys can gel, we can go as far as we want to go,” said Nurse in a\npress release. “But there’s some work to do. We’ve got to get together,\nwe’re going to have to develop a really tough mentality defensively, we’re\ngoing to have to develop a selfless, hit-the-open-man offensive mentality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“When you start doing those things\nwho knows where you can go. But my objective is to win.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The offseason has been anything but off\nfor the young future phenom, who on Monday also learned he was selected as one\nof the Gators\u2019 \u201cMoments of the Year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His shot with four seconds to go against\nthe LSU Tigers in early March will go down in Florida fan lore, with a berth in\nthe March Madness tournament on the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
