The opening bars to the\niconic film Casablanca provided the setting for the intrigue and adventure of a\nperiod of world history that is also a piece of Canadian memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming presentation by\nauthor Ted Barris as part of the Aurora Historical Society Speaker Series is a\nnot-to-be missed event – and we were delighted to welcome Erika Baird,\nExecutive Director of the AHS, to speak about the opportunity to engage with\nthis renowned author, journalist and broadcaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without giving away any\nspoilers, Erika provided a glimpse into what we can expect when Ted speaks\nabout his latest book, Dam Busters: Canadian Airmen and the Secret Raid against\nNazi Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on the personal\naccounts, flight logs, squadron war diaries, maps and photographs of the\nCanadians involved, Dam Busters recounts the dramatic story of the\nyoung Commonwealth bomber crews tasked with a high-risk operation against an\nenemy prepared to defend the Fatherland to the death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ted Barris\u2019 charismatic style\nlends itself to conversations between speaker and audience that make every talk\na unique experience. Meet Ted Barris on Thursday, July 25, at 7 p.m., at the\nRoyal Canadian Legion.  Tickets can be\npurchased through Hillary House or at the door, $7.00 each, $5.00 for AHS\nmembers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sultans of String\nprovided the perfect intro to the wildly popular series of free Wednesday night\noutdoor concerts in Town Park hosted by the Town of Aurora and the TD Bank\nGroup. Nicole Conboy, Special Events & Sponsorship Coordinator at the Town,\ngave us the low-down on what to expect for the upcoming concert series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nine weeks of live\nentertainment from 7 \u2013 9 p.m. bring Aurorans together to hear a favourite genre\nof music or to discover something new. People show up with their lawn chairs\nand stake out spots in front of the band shell. And don\u2019t be surprise if you\nfind yourself dancing under the stars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New enhancements to the\nwell-attended series include additional performances during intermissions and a\nmini-market featuring a variety of food and artisan vendors from the Aurora\nFarmers\u2019 Market and Artisan Fair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bring a food donation for the\nAurora Food Pantry before the concert starts and be entered to win a chance to\nenjoy the Premium Concert Experience with upgraded TD-preferred seating and two\nprize packs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aurora Public Library wants\nto spark your creativity with two new contests. The OBOA photography contest,\nsponsored by the Auroran Newspaper, invites you to capture children in the act\nof discovery, and the OBOA writing contest invites you to consider the meaning\nof \u201cHome\u201d. And to get you outdoors,\nDavid and Dierdre Tomlinson invite you to visit their English flower garden,\nMerlin\u2019s Hollow, at 181 Centre Street.
