{"id":24239,"date":"2019-07-11T19:06:14","date_gmt":"2019-07-11T23:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=24239"},"modified":"2019-07-11T19:06:22","modified_gmt":"2019-07-11T23:06:22","slug":"metrolinx-outlines-plans-for-hydro-corridor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/metrolinx-outlines-plans-for-hydro-corridor\/","title":{"rendered":"Metrolinx outlines plans for Hydro Corridor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Brock Weir<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Metrolinx, the provincial body that operates GO Transit, has\nexpanded upon the work they are carrying out in the Hydro Corridor near the\nnorthwest corner of Bayview Avenue and St. John\u2019s Sideroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, The Auroran reported on the concerns of several\nhomeowners in the Pinnacle Trail area abutting the Hydro Corridor who recently\nnoticed staking work carried out just 18\nfeet from their back fences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Responding to a media request\nfor clarification, Metrolinx spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth says they are in\nthe process of \u201cprocuring the GO Expansion contract which will allow us to\nquadruple GO Rail service and electrify core segments of the GO network,\nincluding on the Barrie corridor between Union Station in Toronto and Allandale\nWaterfront Station in Barrie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile the procurement process\nis underway, we\u2019re proactively getting our infrastructure ready for\nelectrification,\u201d he said. \u201cHydro One\u2019s work will enable eventual construction\nof electrification infrastructure, be it overhead catenary system, hydrail, or\nany other technology out on the market. The winning bidder will determine which\nelectrification technology will be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMetrolinx&nbsp;has an\nextensive community relations strategy, with dedicated community relations\nstaff members that build relationships with local residents, community groups,\nand stakeholders all over the GO network. Over the lifecycle of this\nproject,&nbsp;Metrolinx&nbsp;will be working collaboratively with Hydro One to\nensure that the community is kept informed every step of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n\r\n<a
