A 22-year-old Newmarket man is facing multiple charges\nfollowing a sexual assault on a teen in Aurora last month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emilio Gonzalez Ramirez was arrested in the early hours\nof Wednesday, July 3, following an investigation into a sexual assault that\noccurred on Aurora\u2019s trail system on the morning of Monday, June 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gonzalez Ramirez faces charges of aggravated sexual\nassault, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon, and\nsexual interference person under 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

York Regional Police have also charged 32-year-old\nSantiago Gonzalez Ramirez, also of Newmarket, with Accessory After the Fact.\nThe two men are brothers, according to Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn the early morning hours on Wednesday, July 3,\ninvestigators arrested Emilio Gonzalez Ramirez from the Town of Newmarket in\nconnection with the ongoing sexual assault investigation,\u201d said Constable Laura\nNicolle in a statement Thursday. \u201cThe arrest came as a result from tips from\nthe community and investigators would like to thank the media and the public for\ntheir ongoing support and assistance in this investigation. Officers also\narrested and charged Santiago Gonzalez Ramirez\u2026with Accessory After the Fact.\nAnyone who aids or assists a suspect in escaping or evading police may be\nsubject to a criminal charge of Accessory After the Fact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charges have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 24, at approximately 11.50 a.m., a female teen\nwas assaulted and sexually assaulted on the trails system just west of Aurora\nTown Hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe was alone and she was approached by a male who is\nunknown to her,\u201d said Detective Sergeant Simon James. \u201cThe male tried to\nbriefly engage in conversation, she continued to walk, and shortly after that,\nshe was assaulted and sexually assaulted. We believe the individual was armed\nwith a handgun and the victim did sustain minor injuries as a result of the\nattack.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The handgun, he added, was used to assault the victim but\nit was not discharged in the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the assault, the victim was able to reach Town\nHall where she received assistance from municipal employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for minor\nphysical injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following appeals to the public, images of the suspect\nwere collected from area surveillance cameras as well as cameras on board York\nRegion Transit buses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis investigation is ongoing and investigators are\nstill looking to speak with anyone with information, including the potential\nwitness who was jogging on the trails and the young woman with blonde hair who\nwas approached by the suspect after getting off York Region Transit bus #1088\non the date of the incident,\u201d said Constable Nicolle on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Police, the young blonde woman was seen\ngoing into a nearby Tim Hortons following the the interaction and Police are\n\u201cinterested in the details of this interaction and want to ensure she was not\nthe victim of any offence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
