The tradition of friendly international\ncompetition lives on at the Aurora Soccer Club clubhouse, raising money on\nSaturday to support local charity for the thirtieth straight year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club\u2019s annual Charity Soccer Day\nkicked off under some friendly skies with a match featuring those of Scottish\nancestry versus the English, while revelers raised funds for the Aurora and\nNewmarket Special Olympics, to provide sporting opportunities for those with\nintellectual disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an absolutely fantastic charity,\u201d\nsaid Carrie McLucas, the general manager of the Aurora Soccer Club. \u201c(They)\nwork tirelessly providing physical, social and psychological development of\npeople with intellectual disabilities through positive, successful experiences\nin sport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Scottish side got the best of the\nEnglish side in this year\u2019s rendition, winning by a large margin of 6 \u2013 1. Also\nfeatured was a \u201cRest of the World vs. Rest of the World\u201d match, showcasing those\nnot from the two soccer powerhouse sides, while the Special Olympic athletes\nthemselves joined in the competition for their own mini match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some local musical flavour was provided\nby John Tanner, along with a wide assortment of entertainment to make it a full\nday affair for the large gathered crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere was an amazing British food truck\nserving delicious British \u2018pub\u2019 style food, games, face-painting and glitter\ntattoos for the kids, and (club sponsor) Sports Clips doing coloured hairspray\nfor whoever wanted it,\u201d said McLucas. \u201cAnd, of course, a visit from Sporty, the\nhuge inflatable Sports Clips referee!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe singing and socializing continued\nwell into the evening!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
