Tickets are on sale, the talent has been\nbooked, now it\u2019s just a matter of counting down to the 2019 Magna Hoedown \u2013 and\nsupporting worthy community organizations along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representatives from 20 community groups\nthat will share in the proceeds of this year\u2019s Hoedown, York Region\u2019s biggest\ncharity party, gathered at Adena Springs Farm on Wednesday morning, dressed in\ntheir western best, to help get the party started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday; the Hoedown is the largest\nfundraiser in York Region and has raised over $13 million for hundreds of\ncharities, non-profits and community groups,\u201d said Magna\u2019s Steve Hinder,\naddressing the charity representatives, reflecting on Hoedown\u2019s evolution from a\nrelatively simple backyard barbecue 31 years ago. \u201cThere is only one reason why\nMagna is even involved in a Hoedown and it is because of you and all the folks\nthat you serve in our community; this year it totals over 116,000 people that\navail themselves of the services you provide that make our community the\ncommunity we all love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s Hoedown, which will take place\nunder the big top of the Magna Corral on Friday, September 13 and Saturday,\nSeptember 14, is working with a wide array of non-profits from across York\nRegion, offering a hand in the fields of health, sport, arts and culture, and\nmore: Abuse Hurts (The Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness), Aurora FC, the\nAurora Tigers, Autism Ontario York Region & Kerry\u2019s Place Autism Services,\nBig Brothers Big Sisters of York with Epilepsy York Region, Community Living\nCentral York, Deaf Blind Ontario Services, Easter Seals Ontario, Hospice\nGeorgina & the Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery, the Lake Simcoe Soccer\nClub, Learning Disabilities Association of York Region, the Literacy Council of\nYork-Simcoe & Learning Centre for Georgina, Marquee Theatrical Productions,\nNewmarket Redmen, Pulsars Gymnastics Club, St. John Ambulance, the Food Bank of\nYork Region, Victim Services of York Region, the Women\u2019s Centre of York Region,\nand York Pride Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Helping welcome the charity\nrepresentatives to Adena Springs on Wednesday afternoon was Mayor Tom Mrakas\nwho paid tribute not only to what Hoedown brings to this community but what\neach of the organizations do to make the community a better place as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Hoedown is a cherished local\ntradition that our community looks forward to year after year,\u201d said Mayor\nMrakas. \u201cIt is York Region\u2019s largest annual community fundraiser and a\nmust-attend event that we are fortunate to have right here in our Town. It is\nalso one of Canada\u2019s leading charitable fundraisers, having donated over $14\nmillion in its 31-year history. It is also incredible to think this began as a\nsmall backyard barbecue fundraiser at the Stronach Family Farm and it has grown\nto such epic proportions. Over the course of the weekend, thousands of people\nslap on their cowboy boots and hats, plaid shirts and big buckles and come out\nto enjoy the amazing live entertainment and Texas-style barbecue all in support\nof the organizations that make York Region the amazing place and community that\nit is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis year\u2019s 20 recipients are an\nincredible and eclectic list of charities, non-profits and community groups and\nwhile your small but mighty teams may all service residents in very different\nways, one constant is the belief that you can make a difference in the lives of\nthose around you. Thank you to each and every one of you for the important\ncommunity work that you do within our Region and the Town of Aurora.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While there is still plenty of time for\npotential party-goers to get their cowboy boots and hats, plaid shirts and big\nbuckles ready for the main event, there is still more time to wait until the\nheadliners are announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea\nwas announced as the Friday headliner, while the announcement of Saturday\u2019s\nmain headliner is due on July 29. Organizers tease Saturday\u2019s headliner is a \u201choedown\nfavourite.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is our job to put together a program\nthat makes you successful and that is what I am proud to say we\u2019ve done this\nyear,\u201d said Mr. Hinder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the community waits for word on the\nheadliners, we do know that in between will be a showcase of Ontario\u2019s\nbrightest up-and-coming country musicians as the Top 8 contestants in the 2019\nMagna Hoedown Showdown take over the main stage on Friday night (a night which\nwill include a craft beer and food truck festival) with the evening\u2019s winner\nreturning on Saturday night to open for the Main headliner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn Saturday, September 14, we\u2019re\nreturning to our Hoedown roots, starting the night off with some incredible\ncountry tribute artists to get the party going,\u201d said Mr. Hinder, adding that\nthis year\u2019s festivities will see a return of a huge silent auction and \u201camazing\ndoor prizes\u201d drawn at 6.30, 7.30 and 8.30 p.m. \u201cAnyone who has been going to\nHoedown since the beginning knows that this country dance party was really what\nthe event was all about, and that\u2019s where we\u2019re headed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
