A 22-year-old Newmarket man has been arrested following a\nsexual assault on a teen in Aurora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police arrested the suspect in the early hours of\nWednesday morning following the incident which took place on the morning of June\n24 on trails just west of Town Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe arrest came as a result from tips from the community\nand investigators would like to thank the media and the public for their ongoing\nsupport and assistance in the investigation,\u201d said York Regional Police Constable\nLaura Nicolle in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The name of the suspect will be released once the charges\nare laid in court, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe investigation is ongoing and investigators are still\nlooking to speak with anyone with information, including the potential witness\nwho was jogging on the trails and the young woman with blonde hair who was\napproached by the suspect after getting off [York Region Transit] bus #1088 on\nthe date of the incident.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 24, at 11.50 a.m. the YRP were called to John West Way, north of Wellington Street, for a report that a teenage girl was injured and had been sexually assaulted. Investigators have determined that the female victim was walking in the trails west of John West Way when she was approached by an unknown man, assaulted and sexually assaulted by a suspect who was armed with a handgun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim made her way to Town Hall where police were\ncalled and she was subsequently taken to hospital and treated for her injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
