York Regional Police has released a composite sketch of a\nsuspect wanted following a sexual assault on an Aurora teen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday morning, June 24, at approximately 11.50 a.m.,\na female teen was assaulted and sexually assaulted while walking on a trail\nbetween Town Hall and the Aurora Family Leisure Complex (AFLC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe was alone and she was approached by a male who is\nunknown to her,\u201d said Detective Sergeant Simon James at press conference held early\nWednesday afternoon outside the AFLC. \u201cThe male tried to briefly engage in\nconversation, she continued to walk, and shortly after that, she was assaulted\nand sexually assaulted. We believe the individual was armed with a handgun and\nthe victim did sustain minor injuries as a result of the attack.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The handgun, he added, was used to assault the victim but\nit was not discharged in the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the assault, the victim was able to reach Town\nHall where she received assistance from municipal employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for minor\nphysical injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police have been on the scene since Monday, with\ninvestigators stationing themselves at Town Hall, where the parking lot\nconnects to the trail in question. Investigators have since been combing the\narea for evidence on foot, on ATV and from above using helicopters and drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investigation is expected to continue throughout the\nweek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspect is described as a male with light brown skin,\nin his twenties, with \u201ca fairly thin build.\u201d He was wearing a black hoodie,\nblack pants, and a red baseball cap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to the\nSpecial Victims Unit, as well as anyone who might have video footage in the\narea, including surveillance and dashcams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re asking for anyone in the area\u2026between 10 a.m. and\n2 p.m. in the St. John\u2019s Sideroad, Yonge Street, Bayview Avenue, or Vandorf\nSideroad [areas], if they saw anything suspicious in and around that time frame\nto please contact police,\u201d said Dt. Sgt. James. \u201cThere is some indication there\nmay have been a male jogger that may have interacted with our victim shortly\nafter the offence occurred. He is described as a male in his mid to late 50s,\nAsian, wearing all black as well. We would love to speak to him. Please contact\nthe Special Victims Unit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the assault was first reported on Monday, Police\nsay they have received some tips from the public, along with \u201clots of evidence\u201d\nto look at, but Dt. Sgt. James declined to elaborate further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walkers, joggers and cyclists were using the trail in\nquestion during Wednesday\u2019s police update and Dt. Sgt. James urged the public\nto exercise caution when frequenting the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBe aware of your surroundings as you\u2019re walking on these\ntrails,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you see something, call us immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
