A female teen has been taken to hospital following a sexual assault on the trails west of John West Way on Monday morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

York Regional Police are appealing for information on a\nsuspect following the incident, which took place around 11.50 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspect is described as a male in his twenties with\nlight brown skin tone, thin build, and wearing a black shirt, black pants, and\npossibly armed with a firearm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn Monday at 11.50 a.m., York Regional Police were\ncalled to John West Way, north of Wellington Street, for a report that a\nteenage girl was injured and had been sexually assaulted,\u201d said York Regional\nPolice Constable Laura Nicolle. \u201cThe preliminary information officers received\nis that the female victim was walking in the trails west of John West Way when\nshe was approached, assaulted, and sexually assaulted by a male suspect\npossibly armed with a firearm. The victim was taken to hospital for her injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSignificant police resources attended the scene\nincluding Emergency Response Units and Canine Units, in an effort to locate the\nsuspect. A police presence remains at the scene while the investigation is ongoing.\nAnyone with information or anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the\narea are asked to contact police immediately. Investigators are also appealing\nto any nearby businesses or residences that may have video surveillance, or any\ndrivers who may have dashcam footage to please come forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
