Council last week\nmade a final decision that finally put in place protections to our stable\nneighbourhoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My thoughts have always\nbeen clear when it comes to stable neighbourhoods and that is that we as a\nCouncil and Town needed to make changes to our zoning bylaw in order to align\nour zoning with the intent of our Official Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And this would only\nhappen through a three-prong approach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The addition of site plan controls (which has already been approved)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    2. Changes to the zoning, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    3. Implementation of design guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This is what I have always stated that\nCouncil would do and Council did just that by approving the changes to the\nzoning that including a maximum GFA (Gross Floor Area) of 3,983 square feet.\nThe vote was 6-1 with Councillor Gaertner opposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    These changes of the zoning bylaw along\nwith the site plan controls and design guidelines will mitigate the situation\nthat residents most take issue with \u2013 where there is development for\ndevelopment\u2019s sake; growth that is not within the character of the community or\ncompatible with our neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Yes, our town will evolve and grow; but it\nneeds to be responsible and appropriate growth; growth that meets the needs of\nand the vision for our community. And I believe that was achieved last week by\nthis Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I am proud that this Council has been able\nto work together to move past politics and make a decision that seems to me to\nbe a common-sense approach to improving planning in our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It\u2019s a sensible way to ensure Aurora\nremains the fantastic community we call home!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
