After a little patience, and a lot of effort, the monkey is finally off of the back of York9 FC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Canadian Premier League\nposted their first-ever league win on Saturday against Vancouver\u2019s Pacific FC,\nin their sixth try. Both sides entered the contest desperate for a win, with\njust one combined in the first CPL season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe boys put a great shift\nin today,\u201d said York9 FC head coach Jim Brennan. \u201cWe knew what was at stake;\nthis was a game that we had to win, and we came away with the three points.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though the squad has found\nsuccess in the Canadian Championship schedule, playing their way to the second\nround of the nation\u2019s most prestigious tournament, success at the CPL level has\nproven difficult to find: York9 posted a pair of losses and three draws before\nfinding their first three-point effort, which came in the form of a tight 1 \u2013 0\nwin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brennan praised a change in\nformation, led by fullbacks Morey Doner and Diyaeddine Abzi, as the cogs in the\nwheel of success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cI call them three-lungs,\u201d Brennan said.\n\u201cBecause they keep going and going and going, these boys, up and down that\nline.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goalkeeper Nathan Ingham, who\npicked up the clean sheet, seconded Brennan\u2019s thoughts, saying the two took to\nthe new lineup \u201clike ducks to water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was Ingham who deserved\nmuch of the praise however, when a handball inside the box in just the seventh\nminute meant a Pacific FC penalty kick. Ingham kept the ball out to keep the\ngame at a scoreless draw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 36th minute, an own\ngoal provided by Pacific FC\u2019s Ryan McCurdy proved to be the only tally of the\nmatch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always fun to be a part\nof a winning locker room,\u201d Ingham said. \u201cIt was tough, but we had a lot of\nexperience in our room.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an added bonus, the win\ncame in front of the club\u2019s home fans at York Lions Stadium, providing the\ndedicated base with a much deserved three points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFootball without fans is\njust a workout, the fans mean a lot to me,\u201d said Ingham. \u201cWhen we got back from\nthe Dominican, they\u2019re waiting for us at the airport. They traveled in\nthousands to Hamilton for our home opener, and they\u2019ve had to battle conditions\nevery time we\u2019ve played at home so far.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The win vaults York 9 FC into\nfifth place in the seven-team league, going ahead of both Pacific FC and FC\nEdmonton. Next up is a meeting with FC Edmonton Wednesday night following press\ntime, while a home game is on the horizon on Saturday in hosting Halifax\nWanderers FC at York Lions Stadium, with a kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\r\n\"Facebook\"<\/a>\"twitter\"<\/a>\"mail\"<\/a>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
