Dylan Di Girolamo has been surrounded by\nrugby his entire life: yet he faces his stiffest competition yet next month in\ndonning the red and white.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canada\u2019s Under-18 men\u2019s sevens team head\ncoach Nigel D\u2019Acre recently announced the squads for the upcoming Men\u2019s U-18\nCan-Am Sevens Tournament, to be held at Fletcher\u2019s Field in Markham on July\n11-13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a field of over 200 Canadian male\nathletes, the Kettleby native saw his name make the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is my first time representing\nCanada,\u201d said the 17-year old St. Maximilian Kolbe student. \u201cI\u2019m looking\nforward to a high pace game with a high level of competition. It makes me proud\nto represent my country for a sport I love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set to suit up for the \u201cCanada Red\u201d\nsquad, Di Girolamo and his team will face off against three other squads from\nacross North America, including two from the States and \u201cCanada White,\u201d which\ncomprises of athletes from British Columbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe challenge faced in Canada and the\nUSA is giving our players meaningful competition at an affordable price to the\nplayers,\u201d said D\u2019Acre in a press release. \u201cCompetitions such as this is a great\nprogression for the athletes in their development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Di Girolamo, that progression comes\nalongside a familiar face: that of Lucas Vanderburg, a native of Mount Albert\nand a teammate on the Aurora Barbs for the past three seasons, something Di\nGirolamo said will make the experience \u201cvery enjoyable\u201d and \u201creally exciting to\nplay at such a high level with him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both Barbs were scouted for the squad\nafter Canada Rugby set up a number of high-level tournaments for the country\u2019s\ntop young rugby superstars, including the recent U18 San Diego Tour, Las Vegas,\nand Tropical 7s tournaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGoing on these tours to the states to\nplay, it encourages me to always play my best no matter the score,\u201d said Di\nGirolamo. \u201cI just have such a passion and love for the game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With his future sights set on collegiate\nrugby and a possible roster spot with the Toronto Arrows of Major League Rugby,\nthe next step for the budding star is a berth onto the 40-man Canada Under-18\nsevens squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
