After an intensive two-year campaign to\nprotect Significant Woodland and Endangered Species Habitat on the Oak Ridges Moraine,\nthe Henderson Drive Minor Variance applications were rejected on Thursday, May\n9, by the Town\u2019s Committee of Adjustment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This represents a huge victory for the\ncommunity and sends out a clear message that Aurora\u2019s environmental heart is\nstill beating and that we won\u2019t allow developers to destroy the very essence of\nour Town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Henderson Forest Aurora Ratepayer\nAssociation (HFARA) would like to thank all those who showed up at Town Hall on\nMay 9 to support this important cause, including our friends from the Stable\nNeighbourhood groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would also like to thank those\nCouncillors who showed an interest in this campaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you to all residents who spoke out\nat the meeting. It was exciting to discover that we have such passionate young\nAurorans who are willing to take a stance on environmental threats to the Town.\nThe future is in good hands! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, we would like to thank the\nCommittee of Adjustment for the extreme care and diligence taken in examining\nthese applications and for ensuring that all sides were given an equitable\nchance to be heard. We also thank the Committee for ultimately upholding the\nimportant four By-laws that protect the subject lands and for honouring the\nintent and purpose of our Official Plan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a time when the environment and our\nwildlife are facing unprecedented challenges, the decision was a poignant\nreminder that when communities come together for the greater good, we all stand\nto win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
