During the most recent Legislative\nSession, our government\u2019s Finance Minister, the Honourable Victor Fideli,\ntabled the government\u2019s first budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our government\u2019s first budget takes\nunprecedented steps in investing in what matters most, while attempting to\nreturn fiscal responsibility and sustainability to our province. Amongst the\nmany landmark announcements and commitments, our government has committed to\ninvesting in transportation \u2013 to get Ontario moving! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In delivering on this commitment,\nMinister of Transportation Jeff Yurek tabled the \u201cGetting Ontario Moving Act\u201d.\nAs part of our government\u2019s investment commitment, this legislation promises\n$25.8 billion to transit expansions and $1.3 billion to repair and rebuild\nhighway infrastructure. I could not be more proud of this commitment!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this initiative, the Premier\nhas committed to building the Yonge-North Subway extension, which will finally\nbring the subway to York Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project will extend the subway\nline 7.4 km north of Finch, to connect Richmond Hill, Vaughan and Markham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the population and transportation\nneeds of the GTA increase, it is important that our transit system keeps pace\nwith those needs. I believe that subways are a vital service that support not\njust Torontonians, but the residents of the GTA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This necessary infrastructure\ninvestment will not only get Ontario moving, but will help open up Ontario for\nbusiness. By connecting the GTA and the City of Toronto, we are not only\nhelping people move around quicker, we are also helping unlock greater economic\nopportunity and potential for people and areas that were previously hindered by\nthe limited transit infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am truly excited for the economic\npotential, prosperity, and convenience that this investment will bring to York\nRegion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our government is working tirelessly\nevery day to make life easier and more affordable for ordinary Ontarians.\nReflecting on the successes of our government\u2019s first year in office, I cannot\nhelp but take note at the speed and pace that we are moving to get Ontario back\non track. With that said, there is still much more to do in helping improve the\nlives and circumstances of the residents of this great province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the Legislative Assembly breaks for\nthe summer, I look forward to connecting with more constituents within the\nregion, so that I could help improve the ways I serve our community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
