A pair of Pickering College students are taking their talents to the\nnext level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seniors Lexi Giorgi and Adam Murphy each announced their intent to play\nat the varsity level of USports at a special signing at the Newmarket campus on\nThursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exciting,\u201d said Giorgi, who will be tending goal for the Queens\nGolden Gaels varsity hockey squad come September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A netminder of eight years, most recently with the Toronto Jr. Aeros,\nGiorgi said it was a no-brainer to join the Queens program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so academically respected,\u201d said Giorgi, who added that aspect\ncombined with a strong hockey program made it an easy first choice. \u201cAs soon as\nI toured the campus, I really felt at home. Plus, it\u2019s a great coach, really\nfriendly to me right from the start. I also know a few girls on the team, I\nskated with them with the Toronto Aeros, so to know people right away is a\npretty big plus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The thought of heading south to play in the NCAA certainly crossed the\nmind of the talented goaltender, though Queens eventually won out by means of\nstaying close to home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giorgi is no stranger to taking on a challenge on the ice: for both her\nfreshman and sophomore years at Pickering College, she was the only girl on the\nsenior varsity team at the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have a lot of kids at this school, but we were on the ice\nfour times a week,\u201d said Giorgi. \u201cI liked it. I was kind of nervous at first in\nGrade Nine; I didn\u2019t really know anyone. There were a lot of grade twelve boys\non the team, so I came in nervous, but they were super nice to me and it turned\nout well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With five years of eligibility ahead of her, Giorgi prefers to focus on\nher upcoming collegiate career before putting the spotlight on her post USports\nplay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Adam Murphy, who will be taking his talents to the Dalhousie Tigers\nvarsity soccer program come this fall, his future sights are set on the budding\nCanadian Premier League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s this new league, and it has good potential, so that could be a\npossibility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the pitch from the age of five, Murphy has represented an elite\nBradford program for the past five years, while becoming a mainstay on the highly\nsuccessful Pickering varsity program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pickering has won back-to-back championships over the last two seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love playing for the school,\u201d said Murphy. \u201cA lot of the kids on the\nteam are borders, from all different countries. So, I\u2019ve really gotten to know\nthem a lot more than if we weren\u2019t playing together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Murphy is hoping to stand out among the Halifax community enough to\ntransition to a possible role with Halifax\u2019s CPL team post-college, the Halifax\nWanderers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI really love Halifax, I liked the campus and I liked the city when I\nwent out there.
