The newly-stated fans of York9 FC will\nhave to wait a little longer for their team\u2019s first Canadian Premier League\nwin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The York Region squad hosted a touch over\n4,000 spectators on Saturday at York Lions Stadium for their first CPL match at\ntheir home club, falling 2 \u2013 0 to Hamilton\u2019s Forge FC after a lengthy weather\ndelay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s our home opener, but it\u2019s funny that\nit\u2019s coming so many weeks down from the beginning of the season,\u201d said head\ncoach Jim Brennan. \u201cWe found it difficult as well, being on the road \u2013 Forge,\nwe had their home opener, then Cavalry, we had their home opener, and it\u2019s been\ndifficult for us. But we grinded through it, had a couple draws on the road,\nwhich is fine<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A massive 22 shots combined by the two\nsquads failed to find the back of the net in the opening half, before Hamilton\nburied twice in the second half to take back-to-back wins over the York side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe felt, just before that delay, we had\nthem on the ropes, had plenty of chances, lots of opportunities, we felt it was\ncoming,\u201d said Brennan following the match. \u201cThat delay took the wind out of our\nsails. The second half, our momentum kept on taking us forward, had some good\npossession, plenty of shots today \u2013 20-something shots \u2013 just we couldn\u2019t find\nthe back of the net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey break on the counter and they score\non us. That\u2019s the way the game goes. So, we\u2019re frustrated, the way it came\nabout. We felt we were the better team today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a quick counter attack put the home\nteam down by one at the 70th minute, it was just eight minutes later that\nHamilton was able to put the game away for good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou keep learning as you go along,\u201d said\nBrennan. \u201cIf we take away the two goals, we look at our performance overall, we\nthink: we\u2019re alright, we\u2019re on the right track here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club issued a statement on Monday\nabout the weather delay, offering tickets to a future home game and stating\n\u201cour fans, supporters and partners are of the utmost importance to us and we\nwill continue to strive to offer the best match-day experience at our next home\ngame.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet the most diehard supporters have\nalready received a glimpse of a successful future for the squad: the team\u2019s\nfirst-ever win actually came last Wednesday in non-CPL competition, where they\ndefeated AS Blainsville out of Quebec 1 \u2013 0 to advance to the next round of the\nCanadian Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

York won\u2019t have long to lament Saturday\u2019s loss: they head to Halifax\nThursday to compete with the Wanderers in CPL action, before returning home for\ntheir next home game on June 15 in hosting Vancouver\u2019s Pacific FC.<\/p>\n\r\n\"Facebook\"<\/a>\"twitter\"<\/a>\"mail\"<\/a>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
