Stamp your way to a\nhealthier, more active lifestyle during Recreation & Parks Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June is Recreation\n& Parks Month and the Town of Aurora is offering something for just about\nevery day leading up to June 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The true kickoff to\nRecreation & Parks Month take place Sunday, June 2 at the Aurora Chamber of\nCommerce Street Festival, which will see Yonge Street closed from Wellington\nStreet in the north to Murray Drive in the south, featuring fun for the whole\nfamily \u2013 from live music, to food, to buskers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What follows is a\nmonth of hiking, yoga, tennis, Zumba, and even some gym time at the Club Aurora\nfitness centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regardless of what\ntype of activity you enjoy, keep track. There could very well be a payoff at\nthe end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning this week,\nParks & Recreation Month \u201cpassports\u201d are available for pickup at the Aurora\nFamily Leisure Complex, Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex, Aurora Seniors\u2019\nCentre and Town Hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are four types\nof activities on the passport: sports, fitness, parks and trails, and social\nactivities. Record your activities on your passport and once you\u2019ve checked off\nall four activities on your passport, submit them to the Town for a chance to\nwin a $50 credit to a Town of Aurora recreation program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re not content\nto simply record your activities on your passport, there\u2019s an app for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Town wants to see\nhow the community is marking Recreation & Parks Month on their own, with\ntheir families, with friends, or even with their neighbours. Photos related to\nRecreation & Parks Month can be submitted to the Town on Facebook, Twitter\nor Instagram using the hashtag #AuroraJRPM19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Individuals\nsubmitting photos via social media are eligible to have their pics printed in\nupcoming Town publications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJune is Recreation\n& Parks Month, a great initiative we take great pride in and are proud to\ncelebrate annually,\u201d says Franco DiMarco of the Town of Aurora. \u201cEstablished in\n2005, June is Recreation & Parks Month, or JRPM, is an annual community\nmobilization movement that takes place in parks, schools, recreation centres\nand neighbourhoods across Ontario. JRPM is an exciting way to increase\ncommunity engagement and awareness around the value and important benefits of\nrecreation and parks to individuals, families and communities. Objectives\ninclude increased community awareness and community engagement. The Town of\nAurora is fortunate to have a variety of recreation and parks systems providing\ncountless recreational opportunities for both residents and visitors. JRPM\nallows the Town to showcase the wide variety of programs and services it offers\nwhile encouraging and promoting healthy and active lifestyles for residents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participation in both\nstructured and unstructured recreation, sport and cultural activities improves\nphysical, psychological and emotional health, he added, while parks, trails,\nrecreation and participation builds \u201cfamily unity, social capital\u201d while\nstrengthening \u201cvolunteer and community development, enhancing social\ninteraction, and creating community pride and vitality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the\nfull roster of activities planned for JRPM, which can be found at\naurora.ca\/recreationparksmonth, Recreation & Parks Month coincides with the\nTown\u2019s involvement in ParticipACTION\u2019s Community Better Challenge, hosted in\npartnership with Sport Aurora & Activate Aurora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Challenge is a brand new annual physical\nactivity challenge that is bringing communities together with physical activity\nand sport participation,\u201d says Mr. DiMarco. \u201cThe challenge takes place between\nMay 31 and June 16.
