Well, talk about a washout!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weather this May on\nSaturdays hasn\u2019t been kind to the Farmers\u2019 Market vendors and shoppers, but the\nconstant downpour this past Saturday, for our Spring Festival, was particularly\ndisappointing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And wouldn\u2019t you know it, the\nrain stopped about 12:30 p.m., just in time for us to pack up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Happily, Aurorans are an\nintrepid and loyal group and they still ventured out in their macs to visit\ntheir favourite vendors. It\u2019s that loyalty that keeps us powered on days like\nthat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Saturday, and again next\nSaturday, we saw Activate Aurora at the Market, preparing for the \u2018Community\nBetter Challenge\u2019 created by ParticipACTION.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their Chair, Ron Weese,\nexplained why they, as a sport and physical activity service organization,\nwould come to the Farmers\u2019 Market. They want to meet the public and explain the\nvalue they see in joining local schools, sport organizations, the Community\nServices Department and businesses in Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They want everyone in Town to\nknow about the Challenge and join in because the more that people participate,\nthe better their chances of winning the title, not to mention having up to\n$150,000 to help prolong their work in Aurora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated that they go where\nthe people are so it made perfect sense to go to the Farmers\u2019 Market which\nattracts hundreds of people on Saturdays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activate Aurora is a program of\nSport Aurora and has encouraged people of all ages, genders and skill levels to\nparticipate in activities all over Town for the last three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the Ontario Trillium Grant\nends in June, the Community Better Challenge comes at a great time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Weese says that \u201dwe have\nbeen working to build skills and programs in our community through local\nschools and our activity service providers, promoting greater physical activity\nfor almost three years now. ParticipACTION announced this Challenge at the\nperfect time for us\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What they need now is for\npeople to show how active they are using the on-line technology in the\nParticipACTION App that can be easily downloaded for free at\nwww.participaction.com.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the program began in July\n2016, Activate Aurora started with the goal of becoming Canada\u2019s Most Active\nCommunity. They are now ready to take on all other communities in Canada to\nshow that Aurora is one of the best places to live, work and play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having Activate Aurora and\nSport Aurora take up the challenge on behalf of our Community to focus\nattention on Aurora on a national scale is a positive thing and one example of\nhow the Aurora Farmers\u2019 Market supports our various community partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ParticipACTION \u201cCount\nWeeks\u201d begin May 31 and end June 16, so the time to join the Community Better\nChallenge is now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aurora Farmers\u2019 Market and\nArtisan Fair is proud to support a vibrant, inclusive community and we welcome\neveryone to visit each Saturday in Town Park between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. until\nthe end of October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Next Special Event will be\nour annual Strawberry Festival on June 22. After a brief absence, the wonderful\nAurora Community Band will be back to play for us on that day. There will be\nmore about plans in a future column.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
