\u201cMy mom moved into a new condo, and I went to visit for a couple of\ndays. Searching for a coffee cup one morning, I sighed, \u2018It seems like I\u2019m\nalways looking for something in your kitchen.\u2019 \u2018That\u2019s good,\u2019 Mom said. When I\nlooked confused, she explained, \u2018Because when you know where to look, it\u2019s time\nto go home.\u2019 <\/em><\/strong> \u2014<\/em>Caroline Young<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This month dear readers, it is a pleasure to bring you the thoughts of\nwhat a mother means to us? Us, is the Evergreen Choir! So, without further ado,\nI give you the Evergreen Choir and a few others to make you smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My mother taught me something very important. As a soloist, Mom\nsaid, \u201cYou are in demand as a vocalist now which can be a lifetime\nactivity, but I want you to know that there comes a time to step down and\nfinish on a good note.\u201d (pardon the pun)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I retired from solo singing when I turned seventy-five.  What a\nwonderful life in music I have had!  I had open heart surgery and I wasn\u2019t\nthe same afterwards.  It was time to follow my mother\u2019s advice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 In\nmy autograph book when I was about 11 years old, my mother wrote:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Life is mostly froth and bubble<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        But two things stand like stone<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Kindness in another\u2019s trouble<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        And courage in your own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is how I have tried to\nlive my life!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I was a teenager, my mother taught me how to smile with my\neyes.  She showed me how to let my soul come through.  She always\nreminded my sister and I that it is our inner beauty that is really important.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My mother and her mother were strong women.  Stand tall, never\nallow yourself to be bullied and do a kindness every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My mother died when I was 16 in 1960.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In those years, although I was in boarding school for 5 of them, I\nlearned to love to sing, do crafty things and to sew.  Like her I love flowers and china. From her I\nlearned to enjoy life. I only knew my mother until she was 47; no wonder I\ndon\u2019t know how to grow old!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I see mothers and daughters sharing shopping outings, movies,\ndinners and manicures there is a touch of jealousy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I observe mothers helping their daughters become mothers, I realize\nhow much I missed.  I also know I will\nmeet her again one day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mothers, we all had one!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can see, mothers indeed have a special place in our hearts and I\nsincerely hope that is the case in yours too. As for me, what has impressed me\nthe most about my own mother, is her ability to persevere. Through my mom I have\nlearned \u201cnever owe money to anyone\u201d. Make sure you pay off something before you\ngo and buy anything else. And yes, I did just that. Thanks, so much mom. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

May this Mother\u2019s Day be a special one for all of you who have had a\nwonderful mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no one who can replace her. It is no matter that she may be a\nfoster mother, a step mother a biological mother, a grandma, a friend. Someone\nwho has been a mother to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On behalf of the Evergreen choir and a few others, thank you for your\nquotes, your memories and the love of a mother. \nTo all the mothers everywhere here and in Heaven, thank you mom, we\ncouldn\u2019t have done it without you. Thank you, dear readers, as always for your\npositive encouragement for my wee column that I so enjoy sharing with you each\nmonth. May God richly Bless all of you and your families as we celebrate and\nremember our Mothers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

HAPPENINGS\nAT THE
\nSENIORS\u2019 CENTRE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BLACK TIE GALA EVENT. <\/strong>This popular event is being held again on Saturday, June 8. <\/strong>Tickets go on\nsale at Reception on May 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SILVER STARS. <\/strong>The Silver Stars always put on a fun performance. This\nspring it will be held on Saturday, June 22 <\/strong>and Sunday, June 23 <\/strong>at 2 pm. The\ntitle is \u201cLet Him Sleep \u2018Til It\u2019s Time For His Funeral.\u201d <\/em><\/strong>Tickets go on\nsale at Reception on May 1 and will cost $5 per person, which includes\nrefreshments at intermission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
