I hope that you had a happy\nEaster celebration with friends and family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Easter season is a time\nfor renewed hope, joy and compassion for others. I know I enjoyed my Easter.\nUnfortunately, on Easter Sunday, we were all saddened to hear of\nthe devastating terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka which claimed the\nlives of over three hundred people and injured hundreds more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canada condemns these\nattacks on hotels and on Christians in prayer at churches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Places of worship are sacred,\nwhere all should feel safe and secure. Canada stands with Sri Lanka and all\nthose affected by this tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, I was happy to\nwelcome the Hon. Filomena Tassi, Minster of Seniors to Aurora to visit the\nAurora Seniors\u2019 Centre. The Minister was impressed with her tour\nof the centre and with meeting local seniors, and had the\nopportunity to see the activities and programs available at the centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the tour, Minister\nTassi and I co-hosted a roundtable discussion with representatives from the Town\nof Aurora, The Town of Newmarket, The Region of York, and other community\norganizations who have been recipients of the New Horizons for Seniors Program\nfunding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Budget 2019, our government\nallocated $100M over five years to NHSP, in support of social inclusion\nfor older Canadians. It was a great afternoon of discussion, and I thank all\nthe attendees for their input and participation. A special thanks to the\nvolunteers at the Aurora Seniors\u2019 Centre for your assistance to organize the\nevent and for your warm hospitality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday April 3,\ninspiring young women from across Canada visited Parliament Hill to take part\nin the Daughters of the Vote 2019. Congratulations to Farah Ahmad for\nparticipating in our democracy and representing our community of\nNewmarket-Aurora and taking your seat in the House of Commons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Great job Farah! I wish you\nmuch success in all your future endeavours. It was great to meet you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday April 13, I was\nhappy to join our community in support of the 10th Annual CHATS Walk for\nWellness at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex. The fundraising walk is held\nevery year, to further build community support and raise necessary funds\nto support the programs and services that are a vital support to the health,\nwellness and independence of older adults in Newmarket-Aurora and across\nYork Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was great to see so many\nresidents dedicating their time to walk and show support for CHATS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you to the\nsponsors, organizers, volunteers and many walkers. It was another\nsuccessful event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Town of Aurora\u2019s Annual\nClean-Up day was held on Saturday April 13, with nearly 500 volunteers\nparticipating in the event to clear litter and debris from around town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A volunteer appreciation\nbarbecue was held at Town Park following the clean-up efforts. Thank\nyou to the dedicated volunteers, town staff and the event sponsors for your\ntime and efforts to clean up our community and protect our local environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neighbourhood Network will be\nhosting their annual Spring Tree Planting Day on Saturday April 27. The\nspring tree planting event will be held at various sites across\nNewmarket-Aurora and York Region. If you are interested in participating or\nwould like more information, please visit: neighbourhoodnetwork.org.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August, the Magna Golf Club\nwill be hosting the LPGA Canadian Open, and volunteers are needed. Please\nconsider helping out this fabulous event.\nVisit:cpwomensopen.com\/volunteer-information to sign up as a\nvolunteer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
