Residents in the Bayview and\nSt. John\u2019s Sideroad area have been left to clean up after their back fences\nwere destroyed last week following a grass fire in the Aurora Community\nArboretum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spark from a power tool is\nthe suspected culprit in a fire that ravaged a swath of grasslands within the\nArboretum on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Central York Fire Services\nsay approximately five backyard fences were destroyed in the fire and several\nArboretum trees were damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCentral York Fire Services\nresponded to a grass fire in the Aurora Community Arboretum behind homes in the\narea of Berkshire Drive and Skipton Trail,\u201d said the CYFS in a statement,\nnoting the call came through at 3.25 p.m. \u201cResponding crews noticed black smoke\ncoming from the area and were able to advance hand lines and extinguish the\nfire. There were no reported injuries. It is believed that sparks from the use\nof power tools in the area caused the grass to catch fire. No injuries were\nreported to residents or CYFS staff.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the fire, staff from\nthe Town of Aurora erected temporary fencing where fencing is required by bylaw\nfor safety reasons, in this case to enclose a backyard pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four CYFS apparatus were\ninvolved in the incident and York Regional Police also provided assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
