{"id":23308,"date":"2019-03-21T18:15:40","date_gmt":"2019-03-21T22:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=23308"},"modified":"2019-03-21T18:15:50","modified_gmt":"2019-03-21T22:15:50","slug":"captain-maclean-commits-to-wlu-golden-hawks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/captain-maclean-commits-to-wlu-golden-hawks\/","title":{"rendered":"Captain MacLean commits to WLU Golden Hawks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Jake Courtepatte<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Junior A Aurora\nTigers captain Steven MacLean is trading in his Tigers yellow for Golden Hawks\ngold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The towering\ndefenseman is moving on thanks to a commitment to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden\nHawks hockey program, making it official late last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSteven has been a\npositive influence on our organization and the Town of Aurora,\u201d said Tigers\nowner Jim Thomson. &nbsp;\u201cHe attended every public appearance in our town and\nspent countless hours helping kids away from the rink. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA true leader and\nrole model that has made our organization proud for three years.&nbsp;A class\nindividual all the way. His future is bright.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thomson\u2019s own son,\nJames, is also a member of the Golden Hawks, after splitting his OJHL playing\ncareer between the Tigers, Newmarket Hurricanes, and Trenton Golden Hawks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both MacLean and\nThomson play a similar style of game as a big-body, long-reach presence on the\nblue line: though MacLean has certainly stepped up his offensive production\nsince being named captain of the Tigers last fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He doubled his point\nproduction in the 2018-19 season, despite the team faltering down the stretch\nand ultimately falling to the Hurricanes in the OJHL\u2019s opening playoff round.\nMacLean posted six goals and 22 assists through a 53-game season, while adding\none more apple in five postseason games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A native of\nScarborough, MacLean spent his entire junior hockey career with the Tigers,\nplaying for three seasons after a minor career with the Toronto Aces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He will be looking to help right the ship on a\nGolden Hawks squad that finished the U Sports season ranked twenty-third in the\nnation.<\/p>\n\r\n<a class=\"synved-social-button
