Count \u2018em: that\u2019s four York Region\nchampionships in a row for the St. Max Mustangs girl\u2019s hockey squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the YRAA\u2019s most dominant\ndynasties once again took home the division title in a 5 \u2013 4 overtime win over\nStouffville High School, with the winner coming off the stick of Claire DiLosa,\nher second of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith our success in the last four\nyears, the players have really bought in and want to win every year,\u201d said head\ncoach Kate Treacy. \u201cThey have had a taste of OFSSAA for the last three years\nand it\u2019s an amazing experience for the girls, so they are driven to get there\nevery year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tied at one game apiece in the\nbest-of-three series after both sides won on home ice, the third and ultimate\ngame returned to Stouffville in front of a packed house of students, staff, and\nparents. The Mustangs entered the third period down in a 3 -1 deficit, though returned\nwith three straight of their own to take the lead in a rollercoaster final\nperiod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stouffville scored with just over one\nsecond left on the clock to send the game to overtime, though DiLosa gave the\nMustangs the championship around six minutes into the extra frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julia Cuccia also added a pair for St.\nMaximilian Kolbe, while Nicky Rice potted a single. Erynn Visser was between\nthe pipes for the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Treacy credited the team\u2019s veteran\nleadership with providing the energy for the victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have an amazing group of seniors who\nare leaders on the team,\u201d said Treacy, giving a nod to captains Jacey Dane and\nJayden Thompson, who she said \u201ccontribute each and every game with their\nleadership, hard work and skill.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur other seniors Nicky Rice, Megan\nAnderton, Katie Howe, Natalia Forrester, and Melissa More are also key\ncomponents to our success. Both goalies, Erynn Visser and Olivia Tonelli,\nhave been competitors all season. For Jacey, Jayden, Nicky and Meghan this\nwill be their fourth year in a row as YRAA champs and also their fourth year in\na row going to OFSAA! \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OFSSAA girls championship will go\nlater this month in Midland, where the Mustangs drew the third ranking out of\nsixteen teams, something Treacy said is \u201cwell deserved\u201d for her team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe coaches, myself and Katherine Peat\nare extremely proud of these girls and how hard they work for these\nachievements,\u201d said Treacy. \u201cThey never gave up on themselves against a very\ntough Stouffville team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Placing second in OFSSAA last season,\nthe Mustangs are hoping to improve on what was already an incredible feat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt will be a tough battle this year but\nthe girls are looking forward to it and have the experience from the last few\nyears on their side.  We have a shorter bench with nine forwards and four\ndefence, so the key to our success is short strong shifts and battle every\nshift which they have proven they can do.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
