{"id":23042,"date":"2019-02-21T13:04:31","date_gmt":"2019-02-21T18:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=23042"},"modified":"2019-02-21T13:04:31","modified_gmt":"2019-02-21T18:04:31","slug":"one-buck-pancakes-helps-support-epilepsy-york-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/one-buck-pancakes-helps-support-epilepsy-york-region\/","title":{"rendered":"One-buck pancakes helps support Epilepsy York Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Brock Weir<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last year they sold, well, like hotcakes \u2013 and now Wimpy\u2019s Diner in south Aurora is firing up the griddle once again to benefit Epilepsy York Region.<br \/>\nFrom February 26 \u2013 March 5, the restaurant at Yonge and Golf Links Drive will be flipping pancakes, selling each flapjack for a buck with 100 per cent of all proceeds benefitting the local charity.<br \/>\nThis is the second consecutive year Wimpy\u2019s has stepped up to the plate to benefit an organization that serves hundreds of families throughout York Region, but unlike last year they\u2019ve turned the heat up to 11, firing up their griddle for a whole week this year rather than just a single day in 2018.<br \/>\nThis is music to the ears of Laura Schaffer.<br \/>\nA long-time advocate for Epilepsy York Region, she and her son Erik Ront, who lives with epilepsy, volunteered to be the \u201cface\u201d of last year\u2019s pancake event. It was a rousing success, but Ms. Schaffer says she would like to see even more participants come in and fill their tummies for a good cause, particularly students from nearby Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School.<br \/>\n\u201cStudents can come to Wimpy\u2019s to buy $1 pancakes, but it would be great for them to know why they are buying $1 pancakes and where the money is going,\u201d says Laura. \u201cI just want to see the organization flourish.
