{"id":22646,"date":"2019-01-11T19:30:12","date_gmt":"2019-01-12T00:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=22646"},"modified":"2019-01-11T19:30:12","modified_gmt":"2019-01-12T00:30:12","slug":"saints-set-to-host-prestigious-tournaments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/saints-set-to-host-prestigious-tournaments\/","title":{"rendered":"Saints set to host prestigious tournaments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jake Courtepatte<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the most wonderful time of the year for the St. Andrew\u2019s Saints.<br \/>\nThe athletics program announced Monday the schedule and lineups for the annual Gary West Hockey Tournament on Jan. 18 \u2013 20, the precursor for the prestigious MacPherson Tournament, a packed-house affair the following weekend that has been the pride of St. Andrew\u2019s College since 1984.<br \/>\n\u201cThe MacPherson Tournament is a great opportunity for fans to witness some of the most talented players from around the world in high school hockey,\u201d said Headmaster Kevin McHenry. \u201cMany of these young athletes will go on to play at the university, junior, or professional levels. It\u2019s also a weekend for players to go up against top-quality opponents in an arena that values sportsman-like conduct and respect for others.\u201d<br \/>\nRunners-up in two of the past three seasons in the MacPherson, the varsity A squad will be looking to capture gold on home ice from Jan. 25 \u2013 27 for the first time since 2014.<br \/>\nThe varsity B Saints will also be looking to exact some vengeance in front of their home crowd at the Gary West, after being knocked out of the semifinals in 2018 by Vaughan\u2019s Everest Academy. St. Andrew\u2019s tome home bronze in an overtime win over CISAA rival Upper Canada College.<br \/>\nThis year\u2019s rosters will feature three American schools, two from Ohio and one from Pennsylvania, as well as Everest, King City Secondary, Upper Canada College, and St. Charles College of Sudbury.<\/p>\n<a class=\"synved-social-button synved-social-button-share synved-social-size-24
