It\u2019s not quite the end of 2018, but let\u2019s take a moment to look back at some news items this year in Aurora through that well-known story telling device, the limerick.<\/p>\n

January – The harsh winter
\nThis winter\u2019s relentless cold, snow and sleet
\nHad us griping and admitting defeat
\nBut we knew based on our clime
\nIt\u2019d only be a short time
\n\u2018Til we were complaining about the heat<\/p>\n

February \u2013 Discussion of splitting the Town into wards
\nSome liked what a ward system provided
\nWhile others thought that option misguided
\n\u2018At large\u2019, or new vision?
\nThere was no clear decision
\nOn this issue the Town was divided<\/p>\n

March – Healthier
\nfood choices in Town
\nCouncil voted that rather than treats
\nTown vendors would sell healthier eats
\nYou can guess people\u2019s surprise
\nWhen instead of chips and fries
\nTheir choices were broccoli or beets<\/p>\n

April \u2013 Wrong animal put on crossing signs
\nAvoiding animals on roads this year
\nWas putting Aurora drivers in fear
\nBut warning signs the Town raised
\nLeft all Aurorans amazed
\nThat giant Leatherback turtles lived here<\/p>\n

May – Accessing Hydro Reserves
\nCouncil, to pay for big Town projects to come
\nSaid \u201cthe Hydro Reserves we\u2019ll take it from\u201d
\nBut being no-one\u2019s fools
\nThey first changed the rules
\nTo make it easier to access this sum<\/p>\n

June \u2013 Niagara College obtains a long term lease on the Armory
\nFor Niagara College the stars did align
\nLeasing the Armory would suit them just fine
\nBut the cost, some said clearly
\nWould hit taxpayers dearly
\nSo it was the plans\u2019 foes who provided the whine<\/p>\n

July \u2013 Treatment of trees
\nagainst Emerald Ash Borers
\nWhen borers found our ash trees nutritious
\nThe Town waged a war most ambitious
\nStaff were sure they would win
\nIf they used Tree-azin
\nBut the pests found the substance delicious<\/p>\n

August – Why the
\nHallmark lands will have
\ntwo baseball diamonds
\nThe Hallmark lands were meant to have one
\nField each for soccer and baseball fun
\nBut the soccer location\u2019s
\nEast-west orientation
\nWould have meant playing while facing the sun\t<\/p>\n

September – Municipal election
\nThis election should be quite a fray
\nWith debates, ads and sound bites each day
\nIt\u2019s a mind-numbing show
\nBut we\u2019ve comfort to know
\nThat the next one is four years away<\/p>\n
