Out with the old, in with the new.
\nFor the first time in two decades, and the first drastic change in the program\u2019s history, the junior A Aurora Tigers will have a new logo for the 2017-18 season.
\n\u201cThe Bruins colours are great, the minor team\u2019s logo is great, I just felt the junior A brand needed a change\u201d, said Tigers owner Jim Thomson. \u201cI\u2019m hoping things like this can drum up even more interest.\u201d
\nA slick, modernized version of the Aurora Tiger eliminates the animal\u2019s body in the logo, leaving a more minimalistic approach while altering the colours from black and yellow to black and gold.
\nAmong the changes are a completely revamped set of uniforms, from gloves, to jerseys, to socks, borrowing the colour scheme and pattern of the NHL\u2019s Vegas Golden Knights: a combination of black, gold, and hints of red.
\n\u201cI love the colours,\u201d said Thomson, who came up with the idea after visiting Las Vegas for game one of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Washington Capitals. \u201cThey\u2019re slick, they stand out.\u201d
\nThough a longstanding logo for the club, Thomson said when he bought the team three years ago, he was told of troubles with the Hamilton Tigercats of the CFL the franchise had experienced over copyright infringement.
\n\u201cThey came saying \u2018you\u2019re stealing our logo, that\u2019s our logo,\u201d said Thomson. \u201cSince we\u2019ve had the team, they\u2019ve never come to us, but I\u2019m thinking we do use the exact same logo. So, it\u2019s time for change.\u201d
\nDesigning the logo was a man with a last name many Tigers fans will relate to. Brad Bricknell, father of 2017-18 Tigers captain Jake Bricknell was the leader in the new design, and creates all of the Tigers branded clothing from jerseys to t-shirts.
\n\u201cHe\u2019s a really bright guy\u2026I told him \u2018this is what we\u2019re looking for\u2019, he sent me probably ten different looks, and this is what we landed on.\u201d
\nThe offseason branding is all part of a slogan of \u201ca new era\u201d adopted by the Tigers this offseason.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s almost like we\u2019re looking to start fresh,\u201d said Thomson. \u201cWe had a good playoff run last year, but I still felt like we needed a new start.\u201d
\nThe team will also adopt a sponsored name for the 2017-18 season, sponsored by a major local business yet to be named publicly.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re partnering with a local company in Aurora, they\u2019re a big supporter of the community, a big supporter of ours, and we\u2019re really excited about it.\u201d
