A tumultuous start to the AA baseball season has seen its first sign of spring for the returning Aurora Jays, who picked up their first win last week in an 8 \u2013 5 win over the Bolton Dodgers.
\nRob Spencer took to the hill for the Jays in his first pitching start of the North Dufferin Baseball League season, sitting down the first five Bolton batters he faced.
\nAurora capitalized in the first inning thanks to a Ted Beadle double, cashing in Kyle Handley for the game\u2019s first run.
\nSpencer stayed calm, cool, and collected on the mound through the first few innings, before allowing a pair of runs in back-to-back inning in the third and fourth, bringing in Nathan Robinson to close out the game.
\nAurora went on a scoring streak of their own in the fourth and fifth innings, cashing in Handley once more as well as two from Aaron Giroux and Beadle, while Brad Crosby and Chris Rettie rounded out the scoring.
\nRobinson held the Dodgers in check in allowing just one run through the final two innings, earning the win.
\nThe solid pitching continued into Thursday\u2019s matchup with the Ivy Rangers, where ace Devon Wu went head-to-head with Ivy\u2019s Jarrett Vanderpost in a rare 0 \u2013 0 tie.
\nAurora managed only three hits on Vanderpost in his seven innings of work, all three coming off the bat of Robinson.
\nWu was tagged for seven hits while going the distance, adding four strikeouts to his impressive performance.
\nSunday\u2019s game against the Clearview Orioles was postponed, with a later date yet to be set.
\nDespite waiting two weeks to find their first win of the season, the Jays are hanging on early in the NDBL ladder with a record of 1-2-2 to open their schedule.
\nA three-point week jumps the Jays over both the Lisle Astros and Creemore Braves into ninth-place, while the Mansfield Cubs, Barrie Angels, and Alliston Athletics are still in search of their first two-point effort.
\nThe Ivy Leafs lead the league with a perfect 6 \u2013 0 start, while the Jays will look to put an end to the streak when they pay a visit for a road game on Friday.<\/p>\n
