Newmarket-Aurora\u2019s Progressive Conservative riding association has launched an appeal of the results of last month\u2019s nomination meeting which saw Charity McGrath secure the PC nomination for Aurora\u2019s northern riding.
\nThe riding association submitted their appeal to party officials last Thursday and they are expecting to hear a response this week.
\n\u201cWe sent an appeal in on which there are seven days to reply,\u201d confirmed Derek Murray, President of Newmarket-Aurora Ontario PC Riding Association, responding to The Auroran\u2019s request
\nfor comment, noting there were \u201cirregularities\u201d at the nomination meeting.
\nMr. Murray, however, declined to elaborate on what those
\n\u201cirregularities\u201d might be.
\nMembers of the Progressive Conservative party living in the riding of Newmarket-Aurora, which has been redrawn ahead of the 2018 Provincial Election to correspond with the new Federal riding boundaries introduced in 2015, voted for their nominee on April 8.
\nThe hotly contested race between Ms. McGrath, former Aurora councillor Bill Hogg, and incumbent Newmarket Councillor Tom Vegh was decided at Sir William Mulock Secondary School, with Ms. McGrath coming in first place, followed by Mr. Hogg and Mr. Vegh respectively.
\nAlthough Ms. McGrath did not respond to The Auroran\u2019s request for comment on the appeal by Tuesday\u2019s press time, she said Wednesday that the interests of Newmarket-Aurora residents are paramount.
\n\u201cWhat is important is the residents of Newmarket-Aurora and the effects of the rising hydro rates and burgeoning debt caused by 14 years of scandals, waste and mismanagement,\u201d said Ms. McGrath. \u201cI will continue to work hard to bring back integrity to our Provincial Government that is so very needed today.
