{"id":16760,"date":"2017-03-15T17:41:49","date_gmt":"2017-03-15T21:41:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=16760"},"modified":"2017-03-22T17:52:27","modified_gmt":"2017-03-22T21:52:27","slug":"sac-takes-home-fifth-straight-league-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/sac-takes-home-fifth-straight-league-title\/","title":{"rendered":"SAC takes home fifth straight league title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jake Courtepatte<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the past half decade, the St. Andrew\u2019s Saints have been the top team in prep school hockey.<br \/>\nThe varsity Saints won their fifth straight Canadian Independent School Athletic Association title last week, in front of a home crowd in a winner-take-all game three against Upper Canada College at LaBrier Arena.<br \/>\nLucas Thorne scored twice in the 3 \u2013 1 win, adding an empty netter with just five seconds to go as well as opening the scoring on the powerplay in the first. The Blues tied it up just a few minutes after the opening goal, while Corey Andonovski buried what would be the game winner midway through the second period.<br \/>\nThe Saints threw a total of fifty shots on the UCC net.<br \/>\nUpper Canada extended the series into the third and decisive game with a 5 \u2013 2 win on March 3, after the Saints took game one by a score of 7 \u2013 1.<br \/>\nThe junior varsity Saints followed suit the same day, winning the division 1B championship over Villanova College 6 \u2013 2. They entered the finals on the back of a 10 \u2013 1 win over Upper Canada in the semis.<br \/>\nAs is yearly tradition, the varsity squad followed up by hosting the National Independent School Invitational Championship over the weekend, entering as the top seed.<br \/>\nThe defending champion Saints put up a trio of wins, twice over league rival St. Michael\u2019s College and once over Quebec\u2019s Academie Saint-Louis, before falling 3 \u2013 2 to Bishops College School in the tournament semifinal.<br \/>\nBoth Andonovski and Thorne scored in the second period Saturday to mount a comeback from a 2 \u2013 0 deficit, sending the game to an eventual overtime period. BCS scored just over a minute into extra time to take the championship.<br \/>\nThey went on to defeat Upper Canada 3 \u2013 0 in Sunday\u2019s final.<\/p>\n<a class=\"synved-social-button
