{"id":16672,"date":"2017-03-01T17:52:08","date_gmt":"2017-03-01T22:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=16672"},"modified":"2017-03-01T17:52:08","modified_gmt":"2017-03-01T22:52:08","slug":"pickering-college-cleans-up-in-the-pool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/pickering-college-cleans-up-in-the-pool\/","title":{"rendered":"Pickering College cleans up in the pool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jake Courtepatte<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pickering College\u2019s swim team is heading to OFSAA as the overwhelming favourites.<br \/>\nWith six gold medals and seventeen top-six finishes at last Wednesday\u2019s CISAA finals at the University of Toronto pool, the Newmarket school brings their medal haul into the provincial finals on March 7 \u2013 8 in Windsor.<br \/>\n\u201cThe team as a whole is the strongest I have coached in recent years,\u201d said Coach Lindsey Rife. \u201cThey were dedicated, improved their times with every meet and I could not be more proud of them!\u201d<br \/>\nGrade 10 student Rosa Schaefer led the way, winning double gold in the women\u2019s open 100m freestyle and the women\u2019s open 100m backstroke. She also finished top five in the 50m freestyle event.<br \/>\nAlyssa Cork, Brooklyn Wodehouse, Vanessa Zykova, and Zeynep Eren combined to win the women\u2019s under-20 200m medley relay for the Pumas, while Zykova also took first in the 200m freestyle, while Wodehouse won the 100m breaststroke.<br \/>\nOn the men\u2019s side, Matthew McGill of Newmarket was the winner of the open 200m individual medley, while also taking silver in the 100m backstroke.<br \/>\nHayden Spiers, Sebastian Caricari, and Peter He all finished in the top six in their respective events.<\/p>\n<a
