I know some of you will complain that I share too much of my opinion on social media. I have been told by some that I \u201ccomplain too much and have a big mouth.\u201d However, I feel that I must say something.
\nIn my opinion, the U.S. election was driven by anger and hatred.
\nWe all know that these attributes exist in any country, but we can choose a better path and one that is filled with positivity and hope.
\nIt would be an understatement to say that I am shocked. The people of the United States elected someone who is racist, full of anger, discriminatory, makes inappropriate comments, and for lack of better terminology, is a loose cannon.
\nThis is someone who, in my opinion, does not support democracy.
\nThis is evident because he wants to imprison his opponents.
\nOn the flip side, here in Canada we have a Prime Minister who is young and progressive, with his hopes for the future. He established for the first time in Canada\u2019s history a gender balanced cabinet, appointed a minister responsible for disability and sport, raised taxes on the wealthiest one per cent, while giving a tax break to the middle class.
\nHe increased the Canada student loan program and held a national youth forum on accessibility just to name a few.
\nI may be only 17 years old, but I believe it is important to engage in our political system as soon as you can. This is why I chose to support our fantastic Member of Parliament, Leona Alleslev, during the last election campaign.
\nShe is a wonderful woman who is dedicated to serving her constituents and an amazing mother to her two children, Christopher and Hilary.
\nIn closing I say this, I would be lying to you if I said the results of the US election didn\u2019t make me uneasy. I am scared for the future of the United States and for the future of the world.
\nI know that we can and must do better. We must support our friends and family who are part of the LGBTQ community. We must stand up for human rights. We need to support those who are less fortunate than us and finally we must take a stance against racism.
\nThe President-Elect\u2019s policies do not just effect Americans, they effect all of us and it is our moral obligation to stand up and fight for what is right.
\nLike the old saying goes, what is easy isn\u2019t always right and what is right isn\u2019t always easy.
\nTo quote J.K. Rowling, \u201cit is our choices that show us what we truly are far more than our abilities.\u201d Americans, you have shown us what your choice is and it is clear to me that you have lost the ability to make rational, good decisions
