An Aurora woman has been upgraded to stable condition after a stabbing last week which left her fighting for life.
\nInvestigators with the York Regional Police\u2019s Integrated Domestic Violence Unit arrested a 39-year-old man in the early hours of Wednesday, September 28.
\nPolice responded to a residence near William Graham Drive and St. John\u2019s Sideroad following a 911 call.
\n\u201cWhen officers arrived, they located a man and a woman with injuries,\u201d said Constable Laura Nicolle. \u201cBoth people were transported to hospital where the injuries to the woman were deemed to be life-threatening. Investigators have determined the parties were husband and wife and they had a dispute which escalated.\u201d
\nBy Monday, however, Constable Nicolle told The Auroran the woman\u2019s condition had been upgraded to stable and the accused was slated for a further court appearance on Monday.
\nHe has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Assault with a Weapon. While he remains in custody, he cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, according to Police.
\n\u201cYork Regional Police is committed to investigating all incidents related to domestic violence and providing assistance to victims,\u201d said Constable Nicolle. \u201cInvestigators urge anyone who is being abused, or is aware of abuse occurring, to contact police.\u201d
\nThey ask anyone with information to contact the YRP\u2019s Integrated Domestic Violence Unit by calling 1-866-846-5423 x6716, or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
