A couple of weeks ago, the Aurora Minor Tigers Rep and House League hockey players held their season ending banquets at Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary school.
\nThere was pizza and pop for everyone and the Aurora Minor Hockey Association did an amazing job staggering the Division banquets throughout the day.
\nIt was quite a sight to behold as there must have been 200 players and parents in the gym. This particular hour recognized all rep teams in the Tyke through Midget divisions.
\nThe House League and Rep Banquets are a wonderful ending to the hockey season as the Aurora Minor Hockey Association recognizes the players and coaches with various awards and celebrates another year of learning, playing, competing and enjoying the game of hockey.
\nEach team recognizes players for play and sportsmanship. Encouraging to witness was the number of \u201cspecial\u201d awards presented at the end of the hour.
\nMost of these awards are dedicated to the memory of a player or volunteer who spent time in the Aurora Minor Hockey Association. They are donated by family, friends or the Hockey Association.
\nThese players and volunteers were dedicated to the game of hockey and either played or volunteered to provide a competitive yet inclusive atmosphere for all to play, learn and excel in hockey.
\nMy wife Julie and I were asked to attend the Rep Banquet to present the Inaugural Pauline Hubble Award for Most Dedicated Player for one of the Tyke division teams.
\nThis award was in tribute to Julie\u2019s mother, Pauline Hubble, who had passed away after a short illness in April 2015. Ms. Hubble was the volunteer Registrar for Aurora Minor Hockey for the past thirty-four years.
\nCongratulations to the first-ever recipient of this award and to all award winners and congratulations to all players, coaches and volunteers!
\nThe smiles of the children and parents as they celebrate the successes at the end of the season also help to remind all of us in the community of not only the value of healthy competition, but the importance of dedication and sportsmanship to the game of hockey, and life.
\nIt encourages new players and volunteers to uphold the values of those players and volunteers that have gone before us.
\nCountless volunteer hours are needed to make our Town\u2019s sports organizations run and Aurora Minor Hockey is no exception.
\nThanks to the Aurora Minor Hockey Association and all the volunteer organizations that make Aurora a great community to live in.<\/p>\n
