{"id":14273,"date":"2016-05-18T18:18:41","date_gmt":"2016-05-18T22:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=14273"},"modified":"2016-05-18T18:18:41","modified_gmt":"2016-05-18T22:18:41","slug":"barbarians-score-ten-tries-in-season-opening-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/barbarians-score-ten-tries-in-season-opening-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Barbarians score ten tries in season opening win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jake Courtepatte<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It may be early, but the senior women Aurora Barbarians are looking ready to defend their Ontario Women\u2019s League championship.<\/p>\n<p>A ten try effort gave the Barbs a 60 \u2013 25 victory over the Yeomen Lions in their season opener Saturday, played at Markham\u2019s Fletcher\u2019s Field. <\/p>\n<p>The Guelph Red Coats and Waterloo County also picked up wins in the first week of league play, the first of ten scheduled games running until mid-July.<\/p>\n<p>The senior men Barbarians visited Barrie for a friendly match on Saturday, falling 45 \u2013 24. A rainy game at Jim Hamilton Field was controlled from the beginning by a try from Barrie\u2019s Jesse Leadbetter, while Aurora failed to handle themselves defensively. <\/p>\n<p>Next up for the female Barbs are the Toronto Scottish at Fletcher\u2019s Field. The men opened their regular season on Saturday, visiting Stoney Creek.<br \/>\nThe second women\u2019s team also opens their season against the Scottish, following the first team\u2019s
